Link to spreadsheet of Labour MPS calling for resignation - https://x.com/GuidoFawkes/status/2053925699824574889

Streeting has to make his move now, Starmer will never be this weak and he has the chance to go now.

Burnham might be more likely to win, but he is not in, and where exactly is a safe seat by election they could parachute him in for? (nowhere)

So - Streeting will never have a better chance of being PM, he pulls the trigger NOW or he never pulls it at all.

I did say on Thursday that I thought it would be Friday or Monday.... Tuesday is a pretty good guess.

This is a quiet Bat People moment... That Speech... not worth remembering...

this is me https://www.gbnews.com/news/trans-row-brighton-news-father-sue-school

it's pretty much my single policy voting position.

And I am here right now - because I LOVE TALKING POLITICS :D

So you’re a man, with one or more children, who wants to see policies that encourage women to have more children?

I don’t know if that’s not just creepy.

It sounds as though you’re close to the Westminster crowd. Are you? If so, do you see any alternatives to Starmer in the current crop of Labour MPs?

None have leapt out to me via reporting or news. I’m currently disappointed in Mahmoud, Streeting and Phillips. Always was in Lammy and Raynor.

And incredibly I’m in agreement with John McDonalds on not rushing into another bloody leadership challenge. Does Westminster not realise just how fed up voters are with their internal bickering and manoeuvring?

Edited

Ha no just to a radio. Times Radio has pretty much been running commentary over last few days, including many Labour MPs. Many of whom cited Starmer as feedback / reason on doorstep.

Out of the rest, I don’t actually have a strong view. I think Burnham has the strongest support in the party. Whether he can get in place and it’s actually best for policy and markets is another question.

Ah, okay thanks. I’ve no faith in Burnham. I doubt the markets will react favourably either. If they’ve not got a good alternative, they need to sit tight and spend money on better messaging. But I’m not holding onto much hope.

PA: A planned meeting between the Prime Minister and union leaders on Tuesday has been cancelled. Leaders of the unions affiliated to Labour – the so-called Tulo group – had been invited to Downing Street for a late afternoon meeting. But a few hours before it was due to be held, the meeting was cancelled.

Afternoons plan in the can Keir.

This just in from the Guardian - I think Starmer will stay and be fine.

More than 100 Labour MPs have signed a letter saying this is “no time for a leadership contest”, Jessica Elgot reports. She says:
103 backbenchers and PPSs have signed a statement saying this is ‘no time for a leadership contest’. The statement was organised by group of backbenchers, many from the 2024 intake. So far, the number exceeds those calling for him to quit - organisers say it’s rising.
The letter says: “Last week we had a devastatingly tough set of election results. It shows we have a hard job ahead to win back trust from the electorate.”
“That job needs to start today - with all of us working together to deliver the change the country needs. We must focus on that. This is no time for a leadership contest.”
This means the pro-Starmer camp is outnumbering the anti-Starmer camp – but only just. According to the LabourList tally, 88 Labour MPs have said the PM should go.

Was it the Unions who didn’t vote for Andy Burnham when he ran for leader twice before ? He wasn’t popular then was he. Not sure why he is so popular now really. As an MP said last night on channel four news , he has to be elected as an MP first and everyone will know it’s just a stepping stone to be the leader. Maybe the ones in that by election may feel a bit used. If that happens.

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 12/05/2026 15:34

My biggest answer to that letter is - if he does NOT go - then what the hell happens for the next six months?

The last few days are a death blow for Starmer, his reputation is damaged, permanently.

He could barely govern before, can he post Wednesday's Kings speech?

Assume in comparison to Rayner or Streeting, the Unions will prefer him ?

If he doesn’t go, he stays and keeps going? What do you think will happen? Do you want to write to him and say you could do a better job? He’s really not that bad.

He's really ..... nothing. Just nothing.

An Asda in Middlesborough is missing its manager.

And a quick reminder - this isn;t personal. I am literally here to talk about politics. I like it. I don't think I'd be much better than him but I'd not do the same policies as him, who knows.

I think there needs to be root and branch change to the entire UK political system starting with a full PR. I am not stupid enough to think it comes down to one person.

I wouid prefer him to any of the others, but he needs to be an MP first so it’s a long haul still.

I think KS should stay for now, because I think we really need continuity and stability and because I can’t think of anyone who could do a better job or who would want the job right now.

I think he should carry on for as long as his MP want him to. As soon as more MPs publicly call for his resignation than support him staying, he should go and trigger a leadership contest.

CarbootJunction · 12/05/2026 15:50

As much as I don't like Starmer, I don't think it is right to just get rid of a democratically elected leader three years before the end of his term, just because no-one likes him. He's hardly had a moment to work on anything positive since taking over from the last shit show.

StandFirm · 12/05/2026 15:52

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 11/05/2026 22:01

No doubt in my mind Farage is PM in later 26, or early 27 - 100% sure of it

No. Farage won't be PM unless there's a general election and even then it's not in the bag. And why on Earth would Labour be stupid enough to call one? It doesn't matter who is leader. Look at the Tories. How many different PMs did we have to get through before the last GE?
