Link to spreadsheet of Labour MPS calling for resignation - https://x.com/GuidoFawkes/status/2053925699824574889

Streeting has to make his move now, Starmer will never be this weak and he has the chance to go now.

Burnham might be more likely to win, but he is not in, and where exactly is a safe seat by election they could parachute him in for? (nowhere)

So - Streeting will never have a better chance of being PM, he pulls the trigger NOW or he never pulls it at all.

I did say on Thursday that I thought it would be Friday or Monday.... Tuesday is a pretty good guess.

This is a quiet Bat People moment... That Speech... not worth remembering...

Well those Labour MPs are playing straight into NFs hands. The Reform leaflet that came through my door said "vote Reform, get Starmer put." Now the PLP are making it happen.

The last thing we need is more revolving door at number 10. If they get rid of Starmer then the next thing will be demands for a GE. Then in comes Farage and out go women's rights.

I don't think women's rights are massively safe with Harriet Harman advising on them. (Paedophile Information Exchange, trans when are women etc......)

How about we make it economically viable and attractive to have children rather than something that people put off?

How about we get all the unemployed people who want to work into work and then worry about whether we have enough people?

It's bonkers that we have a whole generation of young people who can't get jobs but are importing people to eg work as train guards and in libraries?

Show me any evidence of policies that make people in the western world have more children.

  • Affordable childcare consistently correlates with higher birth rates because it reduces the financial penalty of having children. OECD analysis found subsidised childcare and paid leave have measurable positive effects on fertility.
  • Paid parental leave increases the likelihood of families having additional children. Austrian reforms extending parental leave increased the chance of another child by roughly 15%.
  • Generous paternity leave also appears to help by making childcare more equal between men and women, reducing the burden on mothers.
  • Direct cash payments and child benefits can raise fertility, especially for second and third children. Long-term studies found sustained fertility increases after family benefit expansions.
  • Housing affordability is repeatedly identified as a major factor. Countries with lower housing pressure and stronger family support systems tend to maintain higher fertility rates.
  • Flexible labour markets and family-friendly working patterns help couples feel able to combine careers and children.
  • Nordic countries historically increased birth rates through a combination of subsidised childcare, generous leave, and policies designed around work-family balance.
  • Financial security matters directly. Studies of lottery winners found that sudden increases in wealth measurably increased birth rates, especially first births.

Great, well done. The evidence is a bit more nuanced but that’s AI for you, usually high level.

Now, which of those things are part of the Reform manifesto, and which were in Labour’s and have either been achieved or are underway?

More likely to work on pig farms or fishing boats or picking asparagus or in care homes. Jobs that seemingly no British born wants to do?

OFFICIAL Cabinet Readout - Tuesday 12 May.

Does not mention anything about a leadership issue....

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting of his Cabinet this morning. The discussion focused on the contingency planning taking place to protect British people and businesses from the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Ministers updated on the extensive plans in place across the economy, energy, health, business and transport sectors. The Prime Minister said that thanks to the government's responsible action to prepare for a range of scenarios, we stand ready to deal with the short and long-term consequences of the war. Ministers pointed to new support for those reliant on heating oil, action to protect carbon dioxide supplies and the energy price cap in place until July as examples of a government that will act to protect those who need it most during volatile times. They agreed that number one priority remains getting the Strait of Hormuz open again, so that international shipping can resume. Discussing the UK's leading diplomatic efforts, they looked ahead to today's meeting of Defence Ministers which will convene nations to discuss contributions for the defensive military mission in the Strait once conditions allow. Finally, they looked ahead to tomorrow's King's Speech and reiterated their ambition to build a stronger, fairer United Kingdom where families feel safer and better off. ENDS

I am so tired of pointing out to people that I won’t again but one last time governments look for legitimacy if the country does not feel they have legitimacy then there has to be a general election or civil unrest and the constant calls for a general election will not go away

Yes but as you can see from this thread plenty of people are quite happy with things as they are. It’s undemocratic for one group of people to try to force the elected government out just because they aren’t happy.

but - a large, large majority - is not happy

In fact 82.2% are not happy if you conclude they would not vote for Labour.

That’s 82% of people who can vote differently at the next general election. Thats not 82% calling for civil unrest

Jess Phillips quits as Starmer fights for survival
Jess Phillips has resigned as a Home Office minister to throw Sir Keir Starmer’s Government into a fresh crisis.

Beer and dancing are culture for many of us.

MissBowen · 12/05/2026 14:29

I agree. She, personally, is no loss.

However, it wouldn't matter if her name was Telly Tubby and she was in charge of pencils. The point is that a well known minister with a high profile has resigned over this.

Jess Philips has resigned? That is so weaselly. Whilst ambivalent about her personally, I thought she was a hard working MP. I’ve turned off the radio now and will wait it out. She’s dead in the water anyhow and will not survive in her current constituency in the next GE. Maybe she hopes to suck up to Burnham and get selected for a safe Labour seat.

You will definitely find quite a lot of them on the streets this Saturday, post local election results.
