Link to spreadsheet of Labour MPS calling for resignation - https://x.com/GuidoFawkes/status/2053925699824574889

Streeting has to make his move now, Starmer will never be this weak and he has the chance to go now.

Burnham might be more likely to win, but he is not in, and where exactly is a safe seat by election they could parachute him in for? (nowhere)

So - Streeting will never have a better chance of being PM, he pulls the trigger NOW or he never pulls it at all.

I did say on Thursday that I thought it would be Friday or Monday.... Tuesday is a pretty good guess.

This is a quiet Bat People moment... That Speech... not worth remembering...

I don't think we'll have a general election until 4.5 years into the term but do support PR - even if it brings in parties who I fundamentally disagree with (restore/reform).

The bottom fell out of the system last Thursday. There is no path to a GE in 2029 I can see.

I think you're right @SingleSexSpacesInSchools

The next general election will be earlier than 2029 and the result will be a hung parliament with Reform on around 30% of the votes and the biggest party. Not big enough on their own so they'll join with the Tories and 5mill Farage will be PM

It will be an unmitigated disaster and the markets will free fall. All hell will break out

It'll continue tops 12 months and we'll then have another general election

Tell me, honestly, who has more support from the markets, Rayner? or - Farage?

Not many other names on the table.

Tbh it’s quite clear that Starmer is not going to resign unless there is some sort of actual challenge. In a way, you can understand that, because otherwise he does not have to. Wes Streeting will need more letters, it seems

What's happening with reeves , would she be a possibility for pm ?
Everything has gone quiet around her and yet it's her taxes and ni that has been a death knell for business.

She's been caught lying on her CV and wrecked the economy.

Some of those names are unsurprising, they were corbynites - John McDonnell and Imran Hussain for example. I read Yvette Cooper was calling for it in The Guardian and that’s when I thought yeah the man is toast. Mandelson screwed him over, him saying “nobody told me” was pretty pathetic, Ed Miliband knew all about him 10 years ago.

The party needs Burnham.

Not everyone loves Burnham. He failed in his bid for Labour leader more than once. He thinks he can change the vote in the north based on what?

Starmer tells cabinet no one has triggered process for leadership challenge and he's not resigning
Keir Starmer has told his cabinet that he is not resigning.

According to No 10, he said:

As I said yesterday, I take responsibility for these election results and I take responsibility for delivering the change we promised.

The past 48 hours have been destabilising for government and that has a real economic cost for our country and for families.

The Labour party has a process for challenging a leader and that has not been triggered.

The country expects us to get on with governing. That is what I am doing and what we must do as a cabinet.

Farage used to trade in the city. He will look after that sector.

And will definitely look after crypto...

MyFellowScroller · 12/05/2026 09:57

Miatta Fahnbulleh has resigned, was a junior minister but I had never heard of her.

Northermcharn · 12/05/2026 09:58

I'm no Labour or KS supporter but if I was, the last thing I'd be calling for is a change in PM. Labour have spent many hours berating the Tories for their leader carousel, and now they seem to be starting the same thing.

Don't Labour understand - it isn't about their leader, it's about them. No one wants them anymore, changing the packaging won't change the contents. They'll just become more despised. I suppose whomever gets the unelected PM role will be sorted for life (yearly income, security etc), I guess that's what this is about, really.

I expect Streeting to walk out the meeting, call in the names, make a play today.

Well exactly. I have quite high hopes for the markets and money when it comes to Farage. Certainly better than Polanski or Rayner!!

Tax Fraud Ange and Walter Titty think that business is something you do on the toilet.

I don’t know about Wes Streeting. You can already hear the implicit smear of “Mandelson protege”.

Also, media ease aside, why is he better?

TemperanceWest · 12/05/2026 10:02

Probably - because it really is now - or never - for him. Give it six months and Burnham might make it in as an MP.

If Streeting goes now - he can win.

Who knows what the hell happened in the meeting itself....

I think that’s called, fight me properly, not with miffy letters.

Of course that is “mutually assured destruction” path but probably if I were PM I wouldn’t give it up so long as I technically had the numbers.

I am not so sure he would win. His Mandelson connections might make some leery of electing him. The left of the party hate him. Burnham supporters will want to wait.

The equation he is looking at is - more or less likely to win now, compared to 6 months when Burnham gets in and this is triggered.

Based on that, chances higher today

Thanks for the link to the list of MPs, OP. I had no idea there were so many Labour MPs I'd never heard of!

This is like Brexit Redux. Never underestimate the capacity of the British for self harm, I guess. And never forget who, specifically, advocated for it!

measuretwicecutonce · 12/05/2026 10:19

I don’t understand this ‘we need Burnham’, I thought he was more left? If we get more left we’ll get more of the same ie no growth and more taxes and freebies for welfare.

It’ll be a million times worse.
