To ask if anyone has any experience of an EVAR procedure for an abdominal aortic aneurysm?

My dad is having one tomorrow morning. He’s been very calm about it all until now but now we’re all starting to get a little nervous. They’re confident they can do the stent repair but have warned there’s a chance he may need to be opened up to do a full abdominal repair, which will mean six months recovery.

He doesn’t seem to have been told a lot about the procedure and what happens after, and the details he’s given me are even less clear. Does anyone know anyone that’s had this done? What can we expect?

None at all sorry but just wanted to say that I hope it all goes smoothly.

Thank you, I can’t go up to the hospital with them and they’re useless at giving updates so it’s horrifically nerve wracking

He’s last on the list which we’re really not happy about, he’s starving already. Just feels like it’s being mismanaged from the off 😞

He’s now been told he won’t be going down this morning because the case that is first on the list is “complex”. I’m fuming

Thank goodness he’s not the person whose vascular case is complex.

Where a person is on the list is not due to ‘mismanagement’ it’s quite the opposite.

It’s a shame you haven’t been able to attend any appointments or attend the hospital with him. There’s lots of information online from various vascular surgeons or vascular centres that describe the procedure, potential
complications and recovery time,

I think it is - it puts him at huge risk of being cancelled, as the morning list only runs till 12:30! So they’ll pop up to him at 12 and say “sorry, come back another day”. He’s had to stop blood thinners and other medication, just to be told this. He’s so gutted.

Just shouting into the void now, but he went down to theatre at 1:30

Except he was then “delayed” until 2:30, they don’t expect him back onto the ward until 7pm. I feel like we’re being lied to

Hope his surgery goes well; can you see him afterwards?

Just wondering how you and your dad are doing? It’s very stressful having family in hospital, especially when you’re not as involved as you would like to be.
