AIBU to complain to Ikea about fitter after poor remedial work?

OK so I had an Ikea kitchen put in over a year ago. it needed remedial work and it took them 13 months to send a fitter to sort it out. He did a half arsed job and so the remedial work needed remedial work! I let the fitter know about it and he said he'd try to come next week, then it was the next week. then he didn't come and didn't contact me either so I rang Ikea to get them to sort it out.

Well he came back then to fix things and when he was leaving he got a bit cranky and said he didn't appreciate me phoning Ikea, why didn't I phone him, he's very busy, he was coming back at his own expense etc etc.....

I just looked at him and said well you didn't get back to me and he was off again and then he flounced out the door and slammed it behind him! It was actually quite funny! But I was right to ring Ikea, wasn't I??

Hmmm, I didn't think Ikea employed kitchen fitters.

Do Ikea employ him?

Yes, he works for Ikea. Probably as a contractor rather than a direct employee. I just didn't want to get into a cat and mouse game of phoning him, getting told next week, then he doesn't show up and so on for weeks and weeks. So I phoned Ikea. He was pissed off about it!

He was pissed off because he knows that if people keep complaining about him to Ikea then he won't get any work, they will take him off their list of approved contractors.

So if he doesn't want to be identified as an unreliable and unresponsive contractor, he needs to NOT BE an unreliable and unresponsive contractor it's that simple really.

You clearly did the right thing because you got a response immediately.
