Aibu for thinking jeans shouldn't get baggy? These are m and s, I've got a front bottom/mum tummy so can't size down

Jeans should be tighter after washing. It's not that long ago we used to sit in the bath to shrink them to fit!

Ok so what happened?

Denim should be tighter after washing, so it may be down to the quality of the denim. If they don’t fit well get them altered, lots of places do it and it isn’t pricey either. Jeans never fit me well, so I size up and get them altered, not only does it mean they’re comfier they look better as they’re literally designed to fit my body.

What happened - they started adding Lycra and other synthetics and using cheaper cotton. Try jeans which are 100% cotton. They will be much more rigid, you’ll probably need to go up a size and they’ll cost more than you are used to. They will still stretch a bit, but not so much. Levis do some, also look at Hiut and Howies. Think I saw some in Next online too.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 09/05/2026 11:26

What is the cotton content vs other fibres?
Also I would be looking for a refund. This is a huge issue lately. The last time I was walking down a busy street nearly everyone in front of me looked like they were wearing a full nappy.

My M&S ones haven’t shrunk at all. How are you washing and drying them?

Sorry I obviously meant stretched. Mine are the same fit as when I bought them.

WeatherOrNothing · 09/05/2026 14:23

It looked like they were the wrong fit to begin with. You have to accommodate your tummy, so you probably went for a larger size than the size than what you needed. It was baggy originally op. Do you know your body shape? That’s very helpful in knowing when you dress for your shape.

What do you suggest? They can't get tighter on my stomach, one already said I have a front bottom. I found them lovely at the start

Wide leg bottoms are very flattering for this. Have you tried them before?

Flattering for what? Making you look huge? Giving no shape? Making me look shorter?

Come on, fat women don't need to wear baggy stuff.....

I find flares flattering they're back in now so my young colleagues tell me, they give shape and balance, go for a boot cut if you don't want to fully commit

TheCurious0range · 09/05/2026 15:14

I also agree a proper jean holds it's shape better than a stretchy one. Levi's have some good offers, if you have the app they send you loads of vouchers also see if there is an outlet near you we have one that's brilliant

Hi they don't suit me and I don't want to wear them..

Again, why are you putting bigger ladies in bigger jeans. That model is a size 10. Get a size 16 with a mum tum. She will look hideous

The original jeans fitted fine, I looked good in them and they were practical. Now you want me to wear jeans that make my legs look huge, belly sticks out and 5"2 me look even shorter. Plus my top is fat as well.

Come on.

niassfattie · 09/05/2026 15:28

Jesus I can't stand seeing bigger ladies in loose clothing as often they look bigger than they are. Especially these jeans which are clearly for tall and slim women who look good in them.

I agree jeans are dreadful nowadays because they aren’t 100% denim, some of my jeans fit perfectly when I put them on then through the day they get baggier and baggier and there is masses of material around the tummy and crotch area, awful.
