To regret calling my friend’s new BF immature?

A group of us met a friends new boyfriend last night. Pub setting so fairly informal.

She turned up and he wasn’t with her, she said he had to rush to the loo. He appeared, said sorry and that he was ‘touching cloth’.

My partner later came back with a round of drinks. It took a while because they needed to change one of the barrels. My friends BF said ‘if I didn’t know any better I’d say you were getting the packet in’.

It was just little remarks like that. Another one which I can’t fully remember was about him not being able to understand a foreign call centre worker, he put on a pretend accent.

My friend messaged our group chat when we got home and asked what we thought. I said he seemed a tad immature. She seemed a bit put out by this.

I am now thinking I should have maybe been a bit more diplomatic? My friend has seemed really happy after having had a string of bad relationships.

You did your mate a favour imo. Hopefully your words will ring caution bells in her ears..
Unless he is 16..

He sounds like a bit of a wally. He might just be nervous though, so see what he's like when he's a bit more relaxed. Be there for your friend though, in case he really is the muppet he seems to be...

Yeah that’s what I thought today, perhaps it was just nerves 😐

She asked your opinion and you gave it.

What does getting the packet in mean?

She asked, you were diplomatic. All good.

@HanhanL and this is likely to be another bad choice. You did the right thing, there’s no point sugarcoating things if she wants to eventually find a decent one. Just see it as you’re helping her.

@HanhanL oh and I had to ask my DH what those two phrases were. Once told I was disappointed he knew, especially the first one. Disgusting!
