To think ear defenders for kids are designed terribly

seeing as the reason most children would use them is for sensory sensitivities it seems insane to me that they squash there head so much and are so uncomfortable!
my ds hates noise but hates ear defenders more.
is there anything like noise cancelling headphones that can't connect to a phone etc so would be allowed in school? He loves using my ANC headphones but obviously, wouldn't be allowed that in school.
does such a thing exist? I can't find anything like it via google but surely the classic head squeezing type of ear defenders are very annoying/painful for sensory sensory kids?

My daughter has to choose between wearing her glasses and wearing her ear defenders each lesson. Sight or hearing? 🤣
She also hates the loop ear plugs because she can feel them in her ear. I’m yet to find a suitable alternative, but something headphone shaped would be wonderful!

I had this exact problem, so I bought some wired headphones on Amazon for middle DD (I think the brand is Tonoshark?) the sound is poor but she doesn't use them for sound - just to muffle external noise a little bit, so they do the trick for us. If you search wired headphones or school headphones I think there are a few options.
