Hackney has a Green Mayor

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/05/2026 11:51

I voted for the party that would keep the Greens out locally, so that was Reform. I’m not your usual Reform voter, previously voted Labour and voted Remain. But the Greens in their current incarnation are a danger in power, especially for women.

Livelovebehappy · 08/05/2026 11:51

Alleluia!!! Finally people can take off their blinkers to see that not all Reform voters are ‘knuckle draggers’. There are millions of Reform voters who sit quietly at home, getting on with their lives, who don’t tie flags to lamp posts or march with Tommy Robinson. Who knew?! People gas lit to believe that the fact we have 10 years waiting lists for housing or that we can’t get treatment with our GPs or have to join long waiting lists for hospital appointments aren’t as a result of uncontrolled immigration, and told ‘nothing to see here’. Unfortunately we have to face the prospect of at least a partially privatised health care, because the NHS is on its knees. Let’s hope hapless Starmer & Co actually now listen to the people who voted them in, expecting change. These local election were the wake up call his useless government needed.

But we are talking about actions, not absolute numbers. When you said 'tinkering' you were referring to the actions, not the results. You can't change the goalposts.

There is so much going wrong with our Labour government at the moment I don't think we need to stack up bad faith arguments on top of that. It's disingenuous.

Er. I think you have just sought to change the goalposts ! I said more could be done. You then came back and said numbers have halved. I then replied to say perhaps the numbers were too high in the first place. Now you want to talk about actions ! Lord.

What is 'more could be done' if not a reflection on the action?
What is halving something, if not an action?

I don’t think Starmer will listen. He seems completely deluded. He will make a speech saying that he will “make changes” and that people voted him in to deliver those changes but nothing will happen. He’s power hungry. He doesn’t care about his party manifesto or what he’s promised, he will only manipulate people to try and gain votes.

OMG. That isn't the sort of immigration people object to, and you know it.
Wilfully misunderstanding, bashing, dismissing; none of these things are helpful. We need more understanding (even if we completely disagree with it!) if we are ever to make any progress.

What is your distinction between a 'good' and a 'bad' immigrant then? What's the 'right kind' of immigration? The VAST majority of immigrants are students or employed. A quick google tells you that asylum seekers are only 12-14% of immigration requests every year. Small boat arrivals are only 5% of the total - so hardly the 'invasion' levels claimed by Reform. If you think there are too many immigrants, the only areas to target would be students (our universities absolutely need them) and those 'good' immigrants propping up our economy. So tell me, what do you think the problem is?
I think you and I and everyone else feel the pressure on public services - which is a budgeting issue and linked to the slower growth that we've experienced since the luminaries of Brexit have foisted that shit on us. It's also linked to other pressures, some of which are down to Nige's good friend, the orange one across the pond.
I completely fail to see how Reform will help with any of it. More likely those grifters will compound the existing problems and create new ones.

These are Labour figures, right? And you just accept them? OK.

They are ONS figures. If you don’t accept figures from the ONS where would you accept them from?

You know Reform don't like women yeah? Farage even thinks Andrew Tate is an important voice for young men.

Isn't that every party leader ever?

Lol, but it's not the fault of immigration! And as we're talking about the NHS - we'd have no NHS if we didn't have immigration.

Now, if you think the tories cutting training places for docs, nurses, midwives and getting rid of their bursaries and relying heavily on immigration to treat us in hospital isn't good - that's fair enough. Even the BMA told the tories years ago not to do it because would cause issues in the future. Well, hello, future is now here!

But it's not the 'fault' of immigration. Gas lit indeed, lol.

Why are Labour still loling. Their results are dire so far and will probably continue.

Oh this old tale….
You claimed on here I didn’t know the difference between boat migrants and migration. You have pretty much said in that post that you don’t seem to know the difference! People aren’t upset about LEGAL migration and those who come here who benefit our society such as Drs and nurses.

Do you not have google? You can easily find out why the NHS is on it's knees.
You don't have to blame it all on immigration and with everything else. Sigh.

The NHS is on its knees for a number of reasons. That doesn’t deflect from
the fact you don’t seem to know the difference between legal migration and boat migration

Previous administration left huge 300 million debt after years of mismanagement. 9 percent increase was to avoid bankruptcy.

As expected from Reform supporters, they can do no wrong.

No come on… you were banging on about me not knowing the difference between boat migrants and migration. Yet you lump posts about people talking about boat migrants with legal migrants coming over here to work as doctors and nurses… ok 👌
