To banish DH over his new protein shake

DH is in a ‘bulking’ phase (for non gym goers, he’s trying to gain muscle).

He has been taking a new ‘mass gainer’ shake since Monday and honestly I’ve never known someone to smell so vile in all my life. I’ve been close to tears with it.

He says he will adjust to it and he needs to keep on taking it to hit his protein/calorie targets. These are ridiculously high numbers.

Am I wrong to insist he sleeps in the spare room for as long as he insists on taking this stuff?!

Protein farts? If so, you have my sympathy. My DH used to drink protein shakes a lot and his emissions could have gagged a maggot. 🤢

In that case, definitely not unreasonable to banish him to the spare room!! I considered the garden shed for my DH at its worst….

What macros is he trying to hit?! I'm stinky on shakes so try to restrict the number I consume and just increase the protein I get from real food which is definitely better for a variety of reasons. He does need to consider if he's meeting his micronutrient needs too as these are essential for muscle building. I'm lactose intolerant so use a complete vegan protein blend once a day which equates to 44g protein. Otherwise I have soya milk (around 1 litre a day), fish, chicken, eggs, Greek yoghurt etc.

Also, if he's missing it in a shaker bottle it'll probably be quite frothy which will increase flatulence. The best way round this is to remove the shaker ball and pop two ice cubes in the shaker instead before shaking. This will stop the froth forming.

Spare room? Garden shed, more like. If you haven’t got one, they get one. He could also use it as a gym.

I’ll suggest that!

I would be grateful that he is trying to make himself more attractive. You benefit from this!

Define more attractive. Lean, fit, young Brad Pitt yes. Big steroid looking over blow young Arnie no.
