Now I don't mean something that was expensive but you really enjoyed, but where you felt ripped off.

I'll start.

26 euros for two Sprite's in Paris.

And this was circa 2014.

An extra £2 for the butter to go on my roll. The roll came with the bowl of soup I had ordered. This was in 1994, I still haven’t got over it.

Something like £800 for the digital copies of a photoshoot that we were GIFTED!

I know we could have chosen to walk away with the 1 free 6x4 but DH got carried away.

Last year after DSs traumatic hospital appointment we took him into town for some lunch and a treat, he'd seen some jelly cat toys, and was interested in this little dragon that was about £15. The shop clerk came over and pulled out a massive one and practically handed it to him and said we also have this one in a bigger size, and DS was enamoured so I thought surely can't be much more, he's had a hard day and he's done really well and pulled through I'm sure it can't be more than £50.

DS passed her it back at the till and she scanned it, but tilted the screen with the price on, and said cash or card, I said card, and then it popped up on the card reader ONE HUNDRED AND TEN GREAT BRITISH POUNDS, I almost winded myself I couldn't speak, and just decided to pay it after seeing DSs face light up after honestly the worst and most invasive appointment, otherwise I would have done the great yorkshire 'ow much?!?!

I have vowed never to step foot in that shop again.

Friend of mine had something similar

She'd taken her 12 year old dd and 7 year old autistic ds into a shop to have a look

Ds fell in love with a jellycat (not sure which one) and the assistant said they had a much bigger one and thrust it at him

Of course he wanted it so she said 'ok' and went to the till

£500!

She said 'no,you can put it back!' to filthy looks from the assistant and one screaming ds

Poor kid was so upset-who does that to a child?

I would have been raging, that is absolutely terrible customer service. This is what sales targets do to people’s morals.

Turkish airport pricing is bizarre. I took my last £30 of Turkish Lira and sad we’d use it up at the airport for coffee and a sandwich each for my group of three. You’d think £30 would be plenty for three coffees and three sandwiches in an airport coffee shop in a generally lower cost country. I was short about £8.

There's no way I'd have thought £30 would be enough!

Kids have to learn they can't have everything they want. I'd have explained that I couldn't afford that, and I have done in the past

£600 vet bill to be told the cat was “pining” for my youngest son!!!

blizymitzy · 08/05/2026 09:28

£4000 on a break to a boogie hotel in Italy that had staff that were struck down with Norovirus and kindly shared it with us on day 2 😩

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/05/2026 09:34

Industry awards dinner at the Park Lane Hilton. Main course was lamb shank, mash, veg, gravy. Veggie option was half a cauliflower, roasted. No sauce, no rub, no jus, no gravy, no flavouring of anything at all. About 2 new potatoes, no other veg for the veggies, because we had veg apparently.

growinguptobreakingdown · 08/05/2026 09:36

Picked DD17 up in an unfamiliar small city last month and she went to the wrong carpark.Ended up driving around in circles trying to find her.2 weeks later I recieved 2 fines - one for driving in a taxi/bus drop off road at the station and one for driving back out of it 1 minute later.£35 each way.

Same, dh and I had lunch at dalaman airport and it was about £40 for 2 sandwiches, 1 packet of crisps and 2 bottles of water.
and we were expecting it too 😂
Editited to add that of course we also bought more food on the plane and it seemed comparatively much better value!

growinguptobreakingdown · 08/05/2026 09:39

Also, the Zoe app a few years ago.So many people told me how life changing it was.£££ to eat some gross cookies just to be told veg, legumes and protein are good for me and that UPFs and sugar are not.Total rip off.

TheChosenTwo · 08/05/2026 09:39

Shame I didn’t edit that post above for spellings 🫣

The M&M shop in London! Can’t remember the exact amount but about £30 for both kids to have a bag of the pick n mix ones each.

I was going to mention there too.
There wasn’t a huge amount in the bag, around the amount you get in a share bag from a supermarket, and it weighed in at around £10. Told them no thanks and put my card away.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/05/2026 09:47

The entire experience of Cadbury World. I don’t know how they get away with it. Not yet RTFT but I will

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/05/2026 09:56

Stardancerintheskye · 07/05/2026 20:43

Cadbury world-i cant remember how much it cost but we walked in and where walking back out within 45 minutes (they did give us 3 free flakes each)

The deep in hull-again,cant remember how much it cost but we (an ex and i) went round it within an hour

Utter waste of money both times

Yes - horrendous. This is quite a long time ago though. Small little bits of chocolate - constant queuing to go round very few demonstrations and a 3 minute “ride” that looked like it had been made on Blue Peter. It did say the “ride” was being refurbed soon.

I also didn’t rate Legoland and thought I would die climbing that big hill, didn’t realise there was a ride you could take to the top 🤦‍♀️

thenightsky · 08/05/2026 10:05

I took DD to Cadbury World 32 years ago. It was amazing value for money back then and we got a huge bag of free chocolate as we went round. Plus the shop was all half price chocolates, from bars to big posh boxes. No fairground type rides at all, apart from a toddler sized roundabout. The factory tour took a few hours and was really interesting. DD is 40 this year and still has happy memories of Cadbury World. What a shame its gone to shit.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/05/2026 10:10

@thenightskyI went in about 09, I would say, so that’s a steep depreciation

Eileen101 · 08/05/2026 10:13

£9.50 for 2 calipos and a cup of tea at legoland last weekend.
It doesn't seem steep in comparison to some of these comments, but for someone who normally carries a hot drinks flask of tea and freezes a thermos to fill with tip tops or mini milks for a day out, I felt aghast 🙄

IsThistheMiddleofNowhere · 08/05/2026 10:13

80 euros for the tiniest steak ever, which must have weighed no more than 2 ounces in Santorini.

Yes, even the Cadburys/Lindt outlet shops are the same price as you'd pay in the supermarkets. Used to be able to get some good bargains in them but not any more

700 AUD for a constipated cat

Similar here came down one Sunday morning cat wasn't moving at all, rushed to vets kept in for 5 days on drip etc - turns out she was constipated - but they wanted 1,200e for the week treatment. Husband kicked up a stink and got it down to 700e. That was over 10 years ago now so god only knows how much it is today, now more clued in before i rush to the vets

Normally I agree-but hes autistic and very black and white

In his head, mum had said he could have it,he doesn't 'get' money and saw the bigger version of the one he wanted rather than the smaller one (which would have been fine until a massive one was handed to him)

She ended up phoning me in tears and I dont blame her

Fourkgtogo · 08/05/2026 10:46

Taking my 8yr old DGD to cinema - £44 just for the tickets… FORTY FOUR POUNDS!!!

mjf981 · 08/05/2026 11:02

Paying a solicitor. Absolute rip off - 150 pounds to send a bloody letter!
