AIBU to be excited about a spa day with MIL?

My MIL is taking me to Champney’s for a spa day - she’s got a two-person day for her birthday and she’s taking me and I’m so excited.

Is it very high-end?

Sorry - I needed to share. Also, is there a particular treatment I should get?

I will need to get her a nice thank you present 🎁

It’s been a really hard few months and a full day relaxing with one of my favourite people is going to be amazing.

Lovely 🥰 enjoy

How sweet! You are absolutely not unreasonable to be excited. All the treatments are lovely - I always get a hot stone massage or similar. Enjoy!

Dinggirl · 06/05/2026 18:54

What a lovely post! A lot of people on here don't like either MiLs or spa days and you love both! 😄
Sorry, never been but I hope you have the best time!

Merryoldgoat · 06/05/2026 18:58

Thank you both - I’m honestly so excited.

MIL is lovely. I’ve been with DH for 20 years and she and I are very close. I don’t have a mother and she has no daughters so we get to do all the girlie stuff together but this is deffo a big step up!

That sounds lovely! Never unreasonable to be excited

Book treatments well in advance but they’re all good. Hope you enjoy.

Jealous! Have a fab time.

Bimbil19 · 06/05/2026 19:12

This post gives me hope that I might one day have a daughter-in-law who wants to go to a spa with me too! Have the best time!

HHCrochetDiva · 06/05/2026 19:15

Oh have a fabulous time, I don’t get to spend enough time with my lovely MIL atm, so I’m well jealous! 😁

How lovely. A spa day is such a nice thing to do.

Champneys is not ‘high-end’, so no intimidation factor there. From my own personal experience. I’d be wary of paying for additional treatments, I’d enjoy the pools, restaurant and relaxation instead.

Flymehomejeff · 06/05/2026 19:52

Champneys treatments are expensive so if you aren't going for a while keep an eye on the website as they sometimes offer discounts on certain treatments.
If you haven't been to a spa day before the one tip a friend gave me that was handy was to take two swimming costumes. You can put your dry one on just before lunch and go to lunch dry with your clean swimmers and robe on.

This is lovely to hear, has a fantastic time.

take your own flip flops unless you know what Champneys provide. I’ve found spas often only slippers which dissolve when wet

Agree with all of this, you’ll have a lovely time relaxing, Champneys isn’t fancy enough to be intimidating but it’s nice enough that you should enjoy it.
if you’re not a regular spa visitor I wouldn’t bother paying extra for a treatment as they are expensive and often over priced from my experience (I go to spas very regularly!)
Take a book, flip flops and enjoy your day of relaxing ☺️

Thank you - some of the London spas I’ve drooled at online took terrifying so glad it’s nice and down to earth.

Thankyou everyone - just heard FIL is driving us there and collecting us so we can have some booze and not drive back (although I was planning to offer to drive so she could completely relax).

I get lots of beauty treatments but that’s more of a salon (albeit a lovely one) than a spa, so you go, wait, get treated, go home.

I’ll follow MIL’s lead and see what she fancies 🥳
