Doja Cat at the Met Gala is the exception to this rule

30 is young!! I think people ‘look’ younger these days than compared to when we look at photos from years ago because the clothes they wore aged them. I look at family members in photos and they do look young and fresh faced, then their clothes make them look 20 years older.

RestlessMillennial · 06/05/2026 17:50

I'm 33 and constantly get asked if I'm still studying/at university. Also get I'D by default. I think if I have children, I will start aging in my mid-late 40s.

Not really

?? Not really what? 30s not young or you don’t think clothes used to age some 30year olds years ago?

SixLeggedSugarBug · 09/05/2026 17:25

30 year olds look young to me now that I am 40, it depends on your own life stage I think.

I agree. And hairstyles too.

You look at shows like Cheers and Everybody Loves Raymond. They're supposed to be in their 20s and 30s 😂.

I think millennials who are into style and fashion have a more youthful aesthetic than those of previous generations. And now we see some of the younger end of gen Z being into botox, filler, etc. and it's aging them before their time. Kylie Jenner looks to be in her later 30s by celeb standard.

D20 · 10/05/2026 11:49

I was thinking the opposite this morning. I was watching someone on instagram and was actually a bit shocked when she said she was 32 as she looks older. Some people always look older, some younger, and some have a drastic switch.

tiramisugelato · 10/05/2026 11:51

30 is young though. Why won earth would they look old?

someoneelsesshoes · 10/05/2026 11:55

30 year olds used to look more middle aged because of how they dressed, how they had their hair etc. It used to be the fashion for women to have shorter hair which looks ageing on most people, whereas now most women have longer hair which does make most look younger.

Women also tended to ‘grow up’ younger and move out, get married and have children at a younger age. The fashion for women of their age was different to how it is now, with 30 year olds now wearing the same thing as 20 year olds.

My impression of the past is 30 year olds used to dress the same as 50 year olds. That’s not the case today.

30 isn’t young

If you live to be 83 (current life expectancy for women), at 30 you haven’t even lived half your life yet. If you’re saying 30 is old that means more people will spend most of their life old.

I was just saying to my colleague that some early 20 somethings look so much older than I expect. So opposite view.

Botox doesn’t really make you younger it just removes lines. Some 15 yr olds have forehead lines, they still look 15!

Yeah I’ve always had those lines!

I think even without botox etc, people do look younger now. Less arduous outdoor work, pollution, poor nutrition, style got frumpy early on back then, short curly hair etc

I’m 30, not grown since I was 12, always getting ID’d. Me and all my friends look very very young!

HoldingTheDoor · 10/05/2026 12:17

This is the OP who always posts weird age related posts. They’ve been doing it for years and I have no idea why so don’t expect any real logic from them.

Girasoli · 10/05/2026 12:19

Gen Z don't smoke or drink much...that's got to help!

Gen Z won’t be 30 yet. Also Gen Z seem to be obsessed with having Botox, filler etc when they’re too young to need it. That makes them look older. I actually think Gen Z look older than millennials.

TheChosenTwo · 10/05/2026 12:30

Well 30 IS quite young really isn’t it?
you wouldn’t expect to see deep or even much in the way of faint lines on the face of a 30 year old. Of course there are 30 year olds with lines but it’s not the norm. I’m 41 and don’t really have any lines/wrinkles. I don’t however have the natural collagen/bouncy appearance to my face anymore, that’s disappeared over the last 4-5 years or so.
Why would a 30 year old not look young or more to the point, what are you expecting a 30 year old to look like?

SpottyAlpaca · 10/05/2026 12:34

Smoking is also a big factor because it’s very ageing. Far fewer people smoke these days, fortunately. Also there is much more awareness of the damage done to skin by sun exposure. Fake tans may look daft, but they are much healthier than real ones.

Totally agree. The one I always go to is Catherine O’Hara who played Kate McCallister in Home Alone, she was mid 30s when filming and I assumed she was way older!! If you actually look at her she had a youthful fresh face it was the outfits, hair and earrings that aged her.

BunnyLake · 10/05/2026 13:07

Well they do look younger than the average 30yr old from 1970 who often looked 45 plus (the men especially).
