Jeez, give them a chance. It may be they have to wait for an official closing date. Or the person who signs it off is on holiday. Or people have other stuff on.

You could just ask the hiring manager for an update/any news....

Contact the hiring manager for an update.

Have you interviewed for the position or just not heard anything about your application?

NightFever89 · 06/05/2026 09:15

My colleage went for an internal promition recently. 2 weeks for outcome. I knew the reason for the delay was because they were reviewing budget to see if they could take on a more senior role and a deputy. There could be other factors at play and 1 week isnt too long!

Occasionalsnaccident · 06/05/2026 09:29

Did you have an interview? This sounds like quite a short timeline if you only applied a week ago, especially with the bank holiday. Hang on, if you were asked to apply that’s a good sign

ERthree · 06/05/2026 09:31

I was in your position once and the manager had to go through the motions of holding interviews, taking time to consider each applicant. it was 2 weeks before i "got" the job.

Thanks. We've had lots of jobs for the new FY and this was one of them

A week is a reasonable amount of time to wait, but equally it’s not unreasonable for you to ask for an update on the status and ask for an estimate of when you might find out if you were successful or not

Zanatdy · 06/05/2026 10:13

Sure they will tell you either way. Be patient.

Brightbluesomething · 06/05/2026 19:58

They haven’t ghosted you, they just haven’t given you an outcome yet. Perfectly normal if there’s a number of roles being recruited at once. Could be a wide range of reasons why. Be patient. If you get it the wait won’t matter. If you don’t, ask for feedback for next time.

EnglishBrits · 08/05/2026 12:44

Chased up and still no update.

So I haven't got it then
