To hate the new Tesco fruit and veg monster

It looks weird and it makes me feel uncomfortable when I open the app, there was a giant cardboard one in store as well. Can someone tell me when they’ve all gone and I’ll think about coming back!

What a handsome devil he is.

Agree about both the fruit monster and the furry blue gas family - if we're dispensing with animated characters, can we please also get rid of this LNER character (apparently called 'Eleanor' = LNER, geddit?). The character/advert tries to appeal to just about every demographic, and ends up just annoying all of them 😩

Oh God, yes, she can sit down and stop bothering everyone as well.

MyThreeWords · 03/05/2026 16:08

It's a weird ad because the greedy little boy is actually stealing a grape, and then he gets rewarded for it by the fruit and veg creature.

So are we meant to think that kids can just snack as they go through the store??

The monster is ok, but I'm sick of shops using token philanthropic gestures to promote themselves.

MyThreeWords · 03/05/2026 16:12

It's just struck me that the thieving little boy reminds me of the nasty thieving child in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. So it feels like the erupting fruit and veg beast should be bringing the revenge that Willy Wonka would have insisted on, not a free apple.

If it gets kids eating fruit and veg then so what?

More likely to scare them off.

I saw the advert and immediately had to switch it off. I suffer from trypophobia and it made me itch all over!

Me too. I keep catching glimpses of it and quickly turning away. It comes up when I open my Tesco shopping app 😫

afaloren · 03/05/2026 16:24

He looks like Mr Oogie Boogie!

SagaNorenMalmo · 03/05/2026 16:26

Ironically, I thought it was covered in hundreds and thousands 😆

Really?

Oh hell no! That’s hideous and sets something off in me.
On the same level as the chewing gum advert where people have mouths in their foreheads. I can’t look at it.

how do these things get signed off?

I dislike the Tesco fruit and veg monster but the advert with mouths on people's heads is on another level. I couldn't have said what it was advertising because I look away whenever it's on. It's so creepy. I genuinely find it like something from a horror film.

TakeALookAtTheseSwatches · 03/05/2026 18:43

Oh I quite like him actually

I absolutely loathe the LNER puppet though

Really?

Yes. It's grotesque.

No, just your regular sweetcorn and carrot vomit.

CherryPieface · 04/05/2026 00:00

I don’t mind the ads at all but also cannot stand the image on the app! I’m quite sad because I’ve always enjoyed how Tesco change the homepage image on the app to match the seasons etc. But this is just creepy and ugly!

Therapyboop · 04/05/2026 00:01

Nightmare for those with trypophobia urgh 😳 😳 😳

niclw · 04/05/2026 00:08

It is supposed to encourage children to east fruit and veg. My child hates it and says it’s scary. My child is 8 years. They have walked around Tesco with their eyes covered this weekend until I said that it was clear.

McCoysCheese · 04/05/2026 02:43

I contacted Tesco about this but they don’t give a shit.

Maybe they will if more people tell them how they feel!

Contact the Daily Mail. I'm sure they'd do an article:

Mumsnet posters HATE the Tesco fruit & veg giant!

Agapornis · 04/05/2026 07:25

I'd like to repeat what i said earlier: THEY DON'T ACTUALLY GIVE FRUIT & VEG TO SCHOOLS. That's the real monster.

They only have a grants scheme where a few lucky schools get £500, £1,000 or £1,500 every 3-4 years. This averages out at
£20.83-41.66 a month per school. It barely covers 1-2 children. I should bloody hope each school's actual fruit & veg expenditure is much higher.

Imagine what they could have done with the money spent on this monster.

ElfAndSafetyBored · 04/05/2026 10:00

It makes me feel physically ill. I think I have trypophobia. I dread opening the Tesco ad.

I’m messaging them to ask them to remove it. I am not hopeful but I guess the more who complain about it, the better?

DiamondCity · 04/05/2026 10:40

Reminds me of bloaters from The Last Of Us.

McCoysCheese · 04/05/2026 12:08

@Agapornisthat’s really bad, I agree. It’s a poor effort on their part.

I haaate it. Freaked out when I saw the giant cardboards in store. Began to itch all over and opening the app is dreadful. Ughh

liveforsummer · 07/05/2026 20:17

I heard the radio advert today. He sounds as bad as he looks! Yuk!
