It looks weird and it makes me feel uncomfortable when I open the app, there was a giant cardboard one in store as well. Can someone tell me when they’ve all gone and I’ll think about coming back!

There was a huge cardboard one at our local Tesco store. I didn't like it all. It made me feel a bit panicky 🤷‍♀️ I'm glad its not just me who didn't like it.

iris1000 · 03/05/2026 08:53

The design of it is so low effort, like they chucked the brief in AI of ‘make a monster to make fruit and veg fun’ and accepted the first output. The vacant eyeholes, the toothless close lipped smile, the formless body, the head make up of the same type of fruit so it looks like boils….all of it, just no.

I saw the advert and immediately had to switch it off. I suffer from trypophobia and it made me itch all over!

Yes I'm the same. I think that's why I felt panicked when I saw it in store.

Cleocaterpillar · 03/05/2026 08:54

Dear god, haven't come across him yet. They should put him in that frilly pink dress from the other thread.

I really, really hate supermarket media teams. Asda renamed all their fruit and veg a while ago to have descriptive terms on the packaging. So 'sweet and juicy' cherry tomatoes or 'cool and refreshing' cucumber. Except none of them actually taste like that. It should be 'bruised and tasteless' tomatoes and 'wet and slimy' salad bag.

SliceofTosst · 03/05/2026 09:03

In my Tesco a huge cardboard cut out one is next to the free apples for school box. Scaring kids 😂

TheCurious0range · 03/05/2026 09:04

There's a big cardboard one in our local Tesco, and the free fruit was some battered looking apples ds was going to take one but when I looked there were two apple cores on top where people had eaten them and put the core back so I told him to leave them, we were buying fruit as part of the shopping anyway!

TheQuickCat · 03/05/2026 09:04

It looks like something from the X Files! My children are older now but if they were younger I could see this as a problem.

Glittertwins · 03/05/2026 09:04

Can’t say it bothered me either way.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 03/05/2026 09:06

It's awful , looks like pustules 🤮

PutAGirdleRoundAboutTheEarthIn40Minutes · 03/05/2026 09:11

Tesco have just sent me an email about him. He is called Plumbert, apparently.

WinterBlues26 · 03/05/2026 09:31

It doesn't look like he's made of fruit and veg (maybe the larger cut out does), but he looks like he's covered in boils from the plague. Very vomit inducing.

imtiredandiwanttogotobed · 03/05/2026 09:32

omg I walked into Tesco last night and met him for the first time and commented to my daughter how awful it was

TJNutbrook · 03/05/2026 08:44

Are you talking about the one where a boy eats a grape and gets chased out of the store and cornered by the monster? I thought it was dreadful and thought it would be scary for kids.

That’s the one! I thought it was very odd!

RS1987 · 03/05/2026 09:35

Hahaha that’s horrible!

Me too!

WellVintaged · 03/05/2026 09:58

Doesn’t bother me at all.

BlindGuyMcSqueezy · 03/05/2026 10:06

I’m not a fan of the fruit mascot.
However, I do love the little cuddly fruit and veg you can buy for £3!

Here’s Barbara settling in.

THANK YOU! I thought I was going mad. Are you trypophobic too? I think it’s linked to that

liveforsummer · 03/05/2026 10:11

ugh he’s awful. Those fruit boil hands are the worse part. Imagine him pawing you with them. He shouldn’t least have fingers 😅

SerendipityCat · 03/05/2026 10:13

It’s a bit hideous and a bit scary. Mind you, Tesco have form for ill-judged advertising campaigns - remember the ones with Ben Miller and Ruth Jones as the parents of an horribly irritating manchild? I’d rather have the fruit monster.

TheQuickCat · 03/05/2026 10:16

Boiledbeetle

🤣🤣🤣 that's brilliant!

He reminds me of the Trash Heap from Fraggle Rock.

The Trash Heap was my first thought, too, then the Golgothan from Dogma sprang to mind... Serious miss from Tesco, IMHO... 🤣

Ha! Glad to see I'm not the only one! I saw the ad and found him weirdly unsettling and a bit scary. Obviously I thought I was being pathetic but it's nice to see others felt the same.
