To really miss my family, especially at night?

DH and I moved quite far away from our families for work. We do have his brother and sister in law here who we get along with very well but every night Im hit with a very strong sense of nostalgia. I miss my family very much despite phone calls with them.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this? Moving back anytime soon isn't really an option. We do like living here, its quite a nice place but as I said, I feel like ive lost my family at night

Hang on in there OP and you will get used to this situation and it will be easier. Sounds a bit like parents feel when adult children leave home - bereft at first, then the new normal gradually settles in.

It’ll get easier. Insecurities are always worse at night. Is there any community groups? Park run etc you could join, meeting new people will help you settle.

I don't think yabu at all. Nighttime can be a time of reflection and vulnerability even these days, with FaceTime and phones. Our families (hopefully) make us feel safe. They are still there, just not so close geographically, but they still love you. As the other poster says, you need to give yourself time for it to seem more normal. I can imagine that I would feel like you do x
