AIBU to hide my post-pregnancy body from my husband?

If you're also an overweight lady, I hope this doesn't offend you.

I'm 26, DH is 26 and DD is 2. I gained a lot of weight during and after pregnancy. It really bothers me. I feel ugly and gross. I wish I was more confident.

DH is physically perfect. Handsome face, lean, six pack, etc. The important thing, his personality, is also perfect. Kind, generous, caring, loving, etc.

He says I'm beautiful. I don't show him my belly. Shirts, dresses, whatever, I'm always wearing something that hides my belly. I'm not stupid, I know you can see the outline of my belly under my clothes. I just can't show him. He doesn't pressure me to see but he wants to see all of me.

Am I being unreasonable?

I'm overweight and you're not being reasonable or unreasonable. A vote isn't going to make you comfortable letting him see your stomach if you haven't for two years.

I'm just frustrated. Frustrated with my body for being fat. Frustrated with my mind that I can't have the willpower to lose weight.

I guess I will check with my doctor about it.

In all seriousness, youre so young and you deserve to feel good - whichever method you choose, just go for it

And its very common not to be able to just stop the food noise, no need to feel bad about that x

I relate to this on such a deep personal level.
You're not being unreasonable. I still have my moments of hiding my body from my husband.

The food noise. Is that what we call it?

My weight problems has really messed with my self esteem. A lot of women feel this way.

TheChineseAmericanMum · 26/04/2026 02:37

I managed to return to my previous size years after giving birth but I wasn't kind to myself during my weight loss journey. I also hid my body.

unintendedconsequences · 26/04/2026 02:38

I know how you feel, I gained weight and absolutely hate looking at the scar from my C section. I don't think you're unreasonable, but that's because I'm now firmly in the camp of "under the covers with all the lights off"

I'm so sorry about the scar.

I don't want other women to feel this way but it's comforting to know I'm not that unusual.

My husband really likes my body. It was hard to see what he finds so beautiful but I had to let myself he vulnerable.

My husband also loves my baby. Which makes me so frustrated with myself. 😭

I really don’t wish to sound rude about your husband, but I doubt he is perfect or any of us would look at him and think so. It’s how you see people when you love them. You love the knowledge of their body and the intimacy that comes with that.

you do what you’re comfortable with, but please don’t compare yourself to him, I am pretty sure you are putting him on a pedestal because you look at him with love- and he will be doing the same to you.
