AIBU to think the Scott Mills and Savile comparison is unfair?

I don't know the full details of what's gone on surrounding Scott Mills, who I liked on the radio. However I've seen comments underneath news articles and on social media where people silence anyone who says they miss him on the radio or hope he's ok by saying variations on "I bet you loved Jimmy Savile too". AIBU to think this is a ridiculous and unfair comparison?

Sex with Corpses? Oh my goodness I didn't know that. This guy was a psycho for sure. I'd rank him with Shipman, Sutcliffe and the rest. He's also responsible for deaths of people who killed themselves after he interfered with them.

I agree the only level of abuse is zero. I know nothing about Phil Schofield as I only ever saw him on Dancing on Ice. I agree with the OP about Scott Mills based on what we know already. More will come out, I expect, if there is more.

Any offence against a child is absolutely sickening doesn't matter if your 22 or 52 male or female the results are always the same a lifetime of trauma I speak from personal experience

Thank you, I've had a lot of intestine therapy over the years I'm in much better situation now than I was but it will never go away, but life is much more manageable for me now then it was 20 years ago.

I wrote this OP with the experience of being sexually coerced when I was 15, by a man in a well known band. He thought I was over 16 and I didn't contradict him. Yes it affected me for many years. I very much doubt I was the only one though however I don't class him as a paedophile or in the same group as Jimmy Savile. He's still performing. But was he?

Yes sadly his depravity plumbed the very depths of anyone's worst nightmares and was prolific. Although of course we don't know the full facts about Scott Mills, it doesn't appear that he's spent his life raping children in psychiatric hospitals or on their death beds, or indeed having sex with corpses.

There are so many gay men who had relationships with very young gay boys and should have known better. It seems to have been tolerated, seen as acceptable, for far longer than it has for straight relationships.

I'm sorry that happened to you, but even if he thought you were legal age he probably would have known you were quite young,so that's on him in my opinion maybe that's just my distorted view of men beacuse of my childhood, even though I'm a man myself my relationship with men is still not great, so in a situation like you original post I tend to put them all in one category, maybe it's something I need to work on.

I don’t know the full story about Scott Mills, but it was a “known secret” that Savile had sex with dead bodies as well as very vulnerable hospital patients when I worked for the BBC as a new graduate in 1999. I think Mills would have to go some to be in that league of depravity.

I know that Scott Mills started in hospital radio so like Saville probably had access to vulnerable patients and the morgue. Haven’t heard what he actually did though? Just that it was something with a boy under 16 (which is awful of course).

They are all different,
Saville was a paedophile in the true sense of the word, he was sexually interested in pre pubescent children and acted upon this many times.
Schofield has a preference for young but post-pubescent boys or young men and from what I can tell (much of it here say mind) it was a pattern with him not a one off incident.
I've not seen anything suggesting it was ongoing or a pattern of behaviour from Mills, we only know about one occasion when he was 22/23 but perhaps that's still to come out.
These are all bad crimes, but I would not say they are the same degree of severity.

Well Mills is a perv. He's been investigated by the police and the BBC's investigation has obviously found enough that they've sacked him.

Schofield was found to be a perv too. As his story broke his brother had just been locked up for child sex offences so that didn't help his 'public image' when his own misconduct with a young partner came out.

If they don't want to be called pervs then they shouldn't have done it!
