Do you ever just get paid and think seriously is this it… I got paid this morning 3100 was put into my account, I transferred 1400 to the joint for bills and household expenses. And I’m left with the rest, but when I look at it, I just think, is this it? Anyone else? Just feeling a bit defeated today! I know to some people this is a lot of money. But these days it really doesn’t feel like it. Come and join for a moan

Is yours so small that it fits in an envelope? Babe.

Did you seriously just tell someone to post their house so that you could show how your "beautiful 100sqm grade ii listed house" is better than theirs?

Grow up FFS. Nobody believes your stories of great riches simply because you are posting in a really odd way. Even though many of us do actually have fairly significant riches.

Are you saving efficiently? The rebel finance school new course starts on June 1. They are legit, given MBE etc. google them.

with your savings you could look at how compounding will give you a tidy nest egg for retirement much earlier than you might currently think you can retire.

Well that’s not 100sqm, now is it? It’s Grade I listed too.

Err no.

But actually, had I name changed for this thread so that it wasn't linked to others I probably would have just to piss you off because you're so immature. I live in a £2.8m property in the Midlands with 20 acres of ancient protected woodland surrounding it. It's almost 600 square metres and key areas have been decorated and styled by an interior designer. I've lived here for almost 20 years and so it has really evolved over the years in terms of styling with a mixture of more modern and antique pieces and the exterior has been featured in design magazines and used on a film shoot because its so pretty.

None of this is vaguely relevant to the OP of course.

I'm generally regarded as beautiful (or at least people tell me so). To preempt your next stupid question I also earn c £350k pa and my net worth is about £7m.

And on that note I'm off since I suspect you are about 12 and have snuck your phone into lessons and I also now need to name change..

Aco8171 · 28/04/2026 17:12

I agree but £1700 disposable income is pretty decent when you consider how many people are struggling to make ends meet. Say you save £700 that’s still a grand for anything extra which in my mind is decent! Don’t get me wrong it’s depressing seeing the deductions coming out 😅 but that’s still a good place to be each month!

How else are they supposed to support the indolent and workshy? You have to be a sugar mummy to the lazy entitled, don't ya know.

Almost nobody getting a 20k bonus to start with is anything other than a parasite in society offering little. I'm sure there are a tiny number of fringe cases that might not be and you will claim to be one, but very few.

The kind of parasite that pays about 30% of all income tax so that we can all have nice things?

Interesting definition of ‘parasite” there.

Take it you don’t mind society leeching off those parasites. Dya know what, I wish every high earner would fuck off abroad, taking their tax with them and see how the UK gets on then.

If there were any better options available to them they’ve all done it by now. They don’t stay out of the goodness of their hearts. They stay because they know they’re on to a good thing.

what is your level of education? do you live in UK?

I don't know anyone around me who gets less than 20k bonus. London, multinational. You know, those parasites working 50+ hours a week paying 60% of all income taxes in UK, those taxes which fund NHS for you, education for your kids etc. Because if you can't comprehend 20k bonus you're most certainly net taker.

I was in the top 10% for several years without a sniff of a bonus.

Oh pull the other one. It’s got bells on it. This is a boring narrative perpetuated by those who are well aware that their presence wouldn’t be missed.
We are a global economy, there are very few places to hide where you will be welcomed
Otherwise you’d already be there

I choose to be here. I have dual nationality and can be elsewhere if I wanted to. This is not the point I'm making.

I find people saying that anyone well paid or having bonus is a parasite, well this person is plain stupid. The same as a person who says that presence of high earners won't be missed.

We know that you choose to be here. You choose to be here because it benefits you because if it wasn’t benefiting you, you wouldn’t be here.
Anything else would be plain stupid

Let me repost again
Cut hours and avoid promotions: how the £100,000 tax trap is shaping work
People don't have to leave to escape.

In my case taxation made me to retire significantly earlier than planned. So that's my high taxes lost. Before retiring I transferred my role to EU and trained the team there. A number of my colleagues did the same or indeed moved abroad. Rough guess is HMRC lost a couple of millions per annum.
But you can continue with your ideas.

Well, you transferred more than I earn and I pay rent, council tax, food shop, bus fair and pet insurance out of that.

Doggymummar · 24/04/2026 08:53

We were the same. My partners bonus was a little more and I had my eye on a garden office as I currently work from the corner of my living room. After all the deductions it was less than £10k so my bubble was popped.

YOU had YOUR eye on your partner's bonus? Did he not want it?

If there were any better options available to them they’ve all done it by now. They don’t stay out of the goodness of their hearts. They stay because they know they’re on to a good thing.

Or they might stay because they have dependents, family etc. Those parasites are paying for lifestyles of people who can’t be a net contributor and those that can’t be arsed to be a net contributor. So, for the sake of this post, let’s imagine there was a better place for them. What would the unable and the unwilling do if all those parasites pissed off?

Apprentice26 · 28/04/2026 21:36

So now we’re speculating on people’s families circumstances and the global opportunities available. I mean it’s just pure fantasy isn’t it? Not something I would waste my time on if I wanted to achieve a 20 K bonus. I’m sure you’ve got something more productive to be getting on with, is that part of the fantasy as well?
