Do you ever just get paid and think seriously is this it… I got paid this morning 3100 was put into my account, I transferred 1400 to the joint for bills and household expenses. And I’m left with the rest, but when I look at it, I just think, is this it? Anyone else? Just feeling a bit defeated today! I know to some people this is a lot of money. But these days it really doesn’t feel like it. Come and join for a moan

So?

People on NMW should do something about that then. Go back to uni and get a bloody big student loan, that affords them a better job and an additional monthly payment. It’s not the person who worked on progressing themselves fault, that someone else didn’t do the same.

Edited

You know people on NMW have also been to uni and have student loans?
you sound like the guy who told me I couldn’t have any qualifications as I was working in a call centre

implying I would be jealous of chavs in my beautiful grade ii listed 100sqm house. be real

I think your maths might be very wrong if you're trying to imply you have a big house? Most people who actually have big houses know roughly how big they are so..

ok you have a very small 2 bed house in London then. You wrote it as though you had a sprawling mansion. 100 square meters is not something generally quoted when they are trying to brag about their "beautiful grade 2 listed property" and calling people chavs.

I have an itchy chin

Put it straight in your pension. Not a penny is deducted then.

Except this is a crap solution when you need the money now.

OP is able go enjoy life’s small luxuries and a great deal more.

Barely. But the point is why does wanting to enjoy life’s small luxuries make somebody “greedy”?

How much would you like to have each month, OP? What would make you feel less deflated? What we pay in tax, etc, is proportional to what we earn, albeit it’s a higher percentage the more we earn, so deemed affordable and our choice of lifestyle reflects that.

Apprentice26 · Today 13:23

Usually everybody would hope for a third of their post tax income to go on Housing, a third on bills and a third for fun
The OP has more than that

I have no problem with people earning more than me.

My issue is when they then start to complain that they have no money and they’re broke! £1,700 a month in disposable income is more than I earn in a year!

You earn less than £1700 a year?!

BringBackCatsEyes · Today 17:32

I think PP means she has less than £1700 disposable income a year.

Ah makes more sense.

to be honest none of these comparisons are of any use. There will always be people with more or less disposable income. It doesn’t mean people can’t feel deflated with the position you’re in.

Maybe OP has been able to separate her feeling about how much hard-earned £ is taken out as tax etc and how she feels about the financial position she is in.

Being happy with what you have, rather than what you don't have is something we teach our children.

Maybe OP has been able to take a step back and see that many, many hard working professionals do not the capacity to save as well as having a great deal each month to spend on themselves.

Maybe treat yourself to a dictionary of English idioms with all that moolah you're claiming to have? 'Having a chip on one's shoulder' is not synonymous with jealousy.

in the context it was used by pp yes it does

Which pp? It was me that said you had a chip on your shoulder, and believe me I'm not remotely jealous of you. Nor was I accusing you of jealousy. To make it simple for you, I was accusing you of having a grudge and I stand by that.
