To ask how you would navigate childcare when moving in the near future?

Regular posted changing name for anonymity.
I need childcare for my toddler from September. We have a place available near us for then, but moving house will be essential sometime September-June next year. To complicate matters we aren’t fully sure where we will move yet, just that we will be looking for a house on the outskirts of the city we work in, but that could be multiple different areas, north, south or west, just depends where is available and a good house and price.

If we stick with the one we have lined up it could be up to a 20/25 min drive each way, which is surely impossible. With waiting lists so long and no idea where we’re moving idk what we are supposed to do in this situation because it’s not as though we can move and then find somewhere, some lists are 2 years long in these areas we are looking at

Surely this isn’t a unique situation, can anyone recommend to a FTM what to do?

thank you

20 minute drive isn't that bad. I know a few doing 30/45mins just because that's the place they want. Just do the drive and then get on everyone locals nursery/ childminders lists, someone somewhere will cancel even if it's just a few days or 2 settings.

If you have any idea of areas you can put yourself on lists now. Because the list are 1-2years everywhere it makes everyone put their names on lots of lists which makes them longer. You'll get a spot somewhere.

Can you get childcare near where you work?

You go with the one you have because realistically you can't reserve a place in an unknown location. When you know where you are moving to, you look at childcare there and find somewhere with space, and move your child to it. Hopefully being able to secure a space when you are in the process of buying and then it being ready for you when you move, but commuting in the first few weeks if you can't.
