AIBU to wait until Thursday to tell my boss about references?

I’ve been given a Conditional offer for another job which is very good news. However I’m at another workplace tomorrow to cover staffing issues. New job place has said if I accept they will begin the onboarding process which is fine. However should I let my Boss know tonight or tomorrow that new work place will contact her for references or should I accept the offer and let the new place know that I will give my notice in on Thursday as I am not there tomorrow. My Boss is the type who would want something like this done face to face rather than by phone/email etc

I wouldn't give notice until new employer is happy with your references and you have a contract.

Yes in a ideal world that would work but then my boss would know I’m looking for a job

Yes they would but unless you have reason to worry that there’ll be an issue with your references then you’re leaving anyway.

It’s completely normal procedure and you’d be absolutely mad to resign until you have a formal offer.

I’ve been sent a Conditional Offer of employment stating hours/salary

I'd call boss and apologise for not telling her in person, but that you wanted her to hear it from you rather than when she received the reference request.

I agree with PPs, you don't resign until the offer is confirmed.
