To ask for London cocktail bar recommendations for a special occasion?

I’m looking to make a reservation at a cocktail bar in London for a special occasion.

Do you have any recommendations please?

I’ve already been to Cahoots Underground Bar and Cahoots Postal Office (and loved them!)

Old fashioned but I like the bar above Rules restaurant and am excited to try the new bar at Simpsons in the Strand.

If you like the speakeasy's the breakfast club runs several. You have to look up the name to get in. Like asking for the 'mayor of scaredy cat town'

The American Bar at The Savoy

If you liked Chaoots the take a look at Evans & Peel and Mr Foggs. Bar Jackie in Soho is also great and really beautiful.

For a more “classic” cocktail vibe then the American Bar at the Stafford and the Beaufort Bar at the Savoy (this is also a private event space so I advise to check it’s not booked rather than just turning up)

rainershine22 · 21/04/2026 10:26

Try Mr Foggs - the one in Bruton Lane. Or 'Scarfes' at The Rosewood Hotel. Or The Velvet Bar at The Corinthia Hotel.

CultOfTheAirFryer · 21/04/2026 10:38

What sort of vibe do you want? I could categorise them broadly as:

  • Luxury, traditional hotel bar - e.g. the American bar, the Connaught bar
  • Modern bar with a view - e.g. 12th Knot, Lucky Cat
  • Deliberately kooky - e.g. Cahoots, Mr Foggs
  • Underground / local/ speakeasy style - e.g. Disrepute. Satan’s Whiskers

Any particular area/location?

Fitz (Bloomsbury)

Thank you! This is the one I’m leaning to the most (so far).

Flute looks good too though.

If a martini fan Dukes in Mayfair

Nightjar is a great speakeasy, often with live music. Same people also have Swift & Oriole, all good and different vibes.

Soma soho is also a good spot.

Agree with others about American bar in savoy.
