To think most people are naturally either savers or spenders?

I feel like people tend to fall into two camps - either naturally more inclined to save or more inclined to spend. Of course habits can change over time but I think most of it is just down to your default mindset. I don’t think there’s many people that sit somewhere in the middle.

I could easily spend spend spend however my father died when I was tiny and my mum was basically financially up shit creek without a paddle, she ended up having to work 3 jobs , just to keep a roof over our head, so I have been a saver, savings are ok,

I'm a bit of both.

My attitudes have been shaped by a very frugal childhood (there was money but it was for my parent's lifestyle, so there were no new clothes or holidays for us children). As a consequence, I value being able to provide nice things and holidays for my family over long term saving. I have multiple savings accounts for different things, the long term savings probably doesn't get enough but I'm overall happy with that.

I was also in a financially abusive relationship years ago which makes me pathologically aware of my income and outgoings, and terrified of debt.

I don't think your wrong, however does it depend how much money you have.
A saver could easily turn into a slender should they win a large sum of money like the lottery or the Premium bonds?

I think I might have been in the middle pre children only because I couldn’t call myself a saver based on how amazing my friend was, but now post kids they just gobble everything up or something huge breaks. I think it’s very difficult to save when older but when you’re younger you’re less able to save because you’ve a lower wage
