TikTok seems to be full of these pearl oyster opening parties again 🤢
what’s even worse are all the people paying a ridiculous amount of money for these, jewellery is being sold for £30 when it costs £1 to buy from Aliexpress.
Lots of UK based ones on TikTok now.
anyone else think it is scammy?

I can't think of anything less likely to capture my attention for more than a nanosecond. Are you particularly interested in buying one?

Nope, I don’t like pearls or cheap Aliexpress jewellery. Was just intrigued by all the naive people spending so much on tatt.
TikTok is pretty much full of it

Aren't they some kind of MLM?

Anyway, yes: totally scammy..

I think they started as an mlm in America but you can just buy the oysters from Aliexpress for $2 and sell for £20 it seems 😂

the ones on Ali aren’t fake but are man made. Some say an irritant is put in but I think dyed pearls are just put in 😂 dyed pearls seem even more tacky

Wow 😳

Parsleyforme · 20/04/2026 17:59

Won't the oysters stink by the time you get them?? Or are they cooked and then vacuum packed. Those coloured pearls look horrible

GenieGenealogy · 20/04/2026 18:00

Of course it's a con.

No, they buy a video opening on TikTok and the oyster is filmed being opened to see what’s inside like a surprise 😂 just seems bizarre people are paying ridiculous amounts without researching. I look forward to reviews on anything I buy

But why don’t people see this? They all seem to have repeat customers who are spending hundreds 😳 more fool them I suppose

Madness.

I did spend a summer working in Newquay Pearl back in the late 90s. Back then people could buy an oyster for £20 which was guaranteed to contain at least one pearl. We'd then set it in jewelry in the store (for a few).

My mum came to visit from overseas and bought one. She got a bog standard pearl which is what most people got. It is lovely though and she had it set as a pendant. On the odd occasion people would get something more rare and in one case a set of twin blue pearls.

Seem - it's like the MLM thing where they fake it till they make it.

Blind bags and unboxing are big trends on social media. And many people are stupid.

PolkaDotPorridge · 20/04/2026 18:41

These are the sort of people that buy/sell wax melts. And are the latter.

Alwaysthesameoldstory · 20/04/2026 19:05

Why are so many people so brainwashed these days they can't think for themselves?

Just because somebody on Tiktok tells them to do something they do it They are just laying themselves open to scammers and charlatans.
