Yet another mass shooting the US, with eight children killed.

Lots of thoughts and prayers and zero changes. As ever.

Yes, it definitely isn’t shocking in any kind of “oh my god, I can’t believe it!” way.

The police have said some of the children were “descendants” of the shooter. So some horrendous man who feels like he’s got a shitty life decides to take everyone with him.

Steelworks · 19/04/2026 18:34

How awful. It sounds like the shootings were at several locations, which somehow makes it worse, as it was premeditated and he was hunting for people.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 19/04/2026 18:46

I just don’t understand it. I have a friend who chose to move to Florida.. 2 kids in a high school thats had one of the worst school shootings in history. Her reasoning was that it’s unlikely it’d happen there again mind blowing 🤯 I’d be a nervous wreck everyday. I couldn’t hack it.

The US seems to be full of absolute lunatics. School Shootings will continue to happen - children’s lives must be a price they are happy to pay so any old nutcase can own a gun. It’s incomprehensible.

We can’t even own guns here and all out schools are like fortresses after Dunblaine. Why aren’t they doing anything about it?

MrThorpeHazell · 19/04/2026 19:24

The reports seem to be saying this was a domestic dispute and not a random school shooting. Not that that makes it any better, of course.

I totally agree.
This shooting wasn’t at a school though, it was two houses on the same street and a third nearby, with some of the children being related to the shooter.

Just another day in America.
The Gun by Gil Scott Heron recorded over 40yrs ago.
Still pertinent now.

Oh that’ll teach me for not clicking on the link - but I guess that I’ve just assumed it was a school shooting is pretty obscene in itself!

Yeah I assumed the same from the headline.

It's awful. I struggle to understand how people in the US can be against gun control. I was hopeful something might change (or begin to change) with the protests following the school shooting in Florida but nothing's hapenned. I also don't understand why, in such a litiguous country, no-ones sued policticians for failing to act and essentially allowing mass shooting after mass shooting. It's crackers that being able to have guns is put above people's, and especially children's, safety and lives again and again and again.
