Things that have unreasonably annoyed me recently.

Bought some knickers a few months ago. Can't remember where from. They're really comfy and quite pretty, so wanted to buy some more. All the manufacturer's info has washed off the label, so I don't know where to get more.

People starting to load their stuff on to the conveyor belt at the supermarket checkout BEFORE I'VE FINISHED UNLOADING!!!

Being charged almost £11 for a 250ml wine in a pretentious restaurant- out of a bottle that costs less than £8 in the supermarket (less if there's an offer on).

Salad garnish on a plate of fish and chips. Good grief.

So, what utterly minor thing has insensibly irritated you recently?

This is not unreasonable

We won a £2 voucher at bingo to spend in the gift shop on holiday & we were planning to spend it just before we left to go home. I lost it & we didn't have time to look for it properly. Surprise surprise, it's one of the first things I found when opening my suitcase at home! I felt really sorry for dd2 (17) as I'm sure she would have loved another fridge magnet/rubber/pencil. She said it didn't matter

Getting stuck behind learner drivers barely doing 20mph.

I’m tolerant of learners, all drivers have been there and I never get too close behind them or anything, if anything I give them way more space than necessary. Often it’s not long before they turn off, but three times last week on my way home from work I got unlucky and was stuck behind learner drivers for most of the journey. They seemed scared to go above 20mph and would slam the brake if a leaf blew in their direction.

I don’t mind it so much on quieter side roads but on the busier ‘main’ roads, it’s very annoying. Even though I know they have to learn somehow, surely the instructor should be encouraging them to drive somewhat close to the speed limit, and if they seem unable they should be taken to a quieter side road to practice some more (although a lot of side roads near me are now 20mph, so that probably doesn’t help).

I know I’m being unreasonable as how else will learner drivers learn. I also feel bad for the learner when a long stream of traffic builds up behind them, they must feel the pressure even if everyone’s being perfectly polite about it. I tend to blame the instructor more than the learner, take them out on short stints on main roads until they become confident fair enough but don’t make them drive on them for long distances if they refuse to go over 20mph in a 30. At that point it feels unfair on all the other road users.

I have a boring and time consuming admin task to do on my laptop. I thought I would be very very clever and use AI to help me do said task. It has been so shit it's not even funny and now I've spent more time trying to get AI to do it than I would have spent just doing it myself.

Obligatory and exhaustive discussion of the menopause/perimenopause every time two or more women of a certain age congregate in every setting and circumstance.

Yes I know that it's good that the taboo has been lifted and I know it's good that we can talk about it openly and I know that it can be awful for some people.

But it doesn't mean that absolutely every problem you ever encounter in your life is automatically attributable to the menopause, ranging from fatigue and irritation to infidelity and domestic violence.

There was life before Davina McCall and women will survive if they talk just 10% less about it.

And the word "peri" and the ludicrous over-application of it can get in the bin. As in "I've just been fired. Is it peri?". Or "My husband went on a two-week bender and shagged five other women. Is it peri?"

Actually I agree with this too (even though I’m in peri & taking HRT Grin)

So am I! And I totally get it. I just am sick of talking about it all the time.

Getting a cold order delivered from Dominoes. Complained and they gave me a free large pizza. Erm, I spent £34 so how is that fair you give me a pizza worth £12 or £14???

Worse still they stopped replying when I asked this and so I resolved not to use them again (plenty other good pizza places near me) other than to use the free voucher. Came to use it to find it was out of date! They'd given me about 10days from date of issue!!!

Irritated is putting it mildly (and yes I know I should have checked the date on it but did NOT expect them to not reply to my last email!!)

henlake7 · 19/04/2026 15:40

First world problem but I have too many HRT tablets!
Ive changed the dose on my patches a few times and every time they send me more patches and more tablets. I keep telling them Im good for tablets and yet every time I get the 'multipack'!😆

Too many holiday makers maurading in my home town, driving on the wrong side of the road, shitting in laybys, swarming like locusts on cafes, pubs and shops. Their entitlement is off the scale, so long as they get the Instagram pics they want nothing else matters. Considering moving to an even more isolated place!

That's awful. Saw a lot of behaviour like that in the Peak District over COVID, huge motorhomes parked on tiny country lanes, flytipping their sewage and rubbish when they left.

I bought some high quality 100% cacao to cover some date and nut bars I made. They were so nice, I ate four of them yesterday. I have had a splitting headache all day today due to the caffeine content. I don’t normally have caffeine and when I do it always leaves me in pain.
I’m so annoyed at myself for forgetting dark chocolate has quite a lot of caffeine in it, and also for scoffing four bars in an afternoon and putting myself in this situation.

ThirdStorm · 19/04/2026 16:59

Next door parking their car and slamming the doors, day and night so impossibly loudly!

So you live somewhere lovely enough to be a holiday destination and be instagrammed? I'm sure there are lots of areas in the uk you could move to without that problem

Driving Irritations

  1. Car drivers (obviously not learners) doing about 55 mph on a busy two-lane motorway at peak times - forcing everyone else to overtake them and causing a bottleneck in the outside lane.
  2. Vehicles driving without lights in poor visibility. The 'auto' setting on newer cars doesn't always illuminate the rear lights.
  3. Tailgating
  4. Hogging the centre lane.
  5. Drivers not giving way when they DON'T have priority - particularly not waiting behind a parked car with traffic coming the other way.
And on and on .....

Bus drivers who just grunt when i say thank you. Car drivers who drive like they are at Silverstone.

I’m not following the thing about loading stuff on to the conveyer belt at the checkout before the previous person has finished unloading? What am I missing ?

Why do the supermarkets provide separators , to delineate the next persons shopping if the belt is dedicated to one person at a time.

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 19/04/2026 18:36

Today Henry the hoover dropping his pipe on my foot when I m wearing slippers. And he hits me on the stairs with his hose. And he grins like a maniac the whole time.

My younger cat has been outside most of the afternoon with plenty of garden things to scratch but has decided to file his nails on the leather sofa (again).

Neighbours outside having a bloody tea party for her 60th. Complete with screaming grandchildren. I m 60 in 2 years. I said to my adult ds I will never ever want a bloody tea party nor get excited and squealy about a cup of tea. He gets it.

Off to shop for bottle of prosecco. The shop is in walking distance but I m annoying myself because I don't want to walk

NormasArse · 19/04/2026 18:44

Today:

Massive potholes in the road when I’m cycling.

The salt and chilli tofu from the Chinese takeaway isn’t a patch on the one I used to get from the nearer one which closed down because the owner retired.

NeedAnyHelpWithThatPaperBag · 19/04/2026 18:50

It's been for a while, but that normal, non specialist, deodorants no longer have alcohol in them so aren't as "drying".

WeaselsRising · 19/04/2026 18:51

Twice now got the train and booked into the quiet carriage. Twice having to listen to a woman having a really loud conversation several seats down. One even commented on the announcement "oh this is the quiet carriage " and carried on her loud conversation. DD will not let me say anything to them.

igelkott2026 · 19/04/2026 18:55

A local path is being upgraded. But the path next to it is partly closed because of the upgrade (I am not sure why). It's only a short section but they don't warn you in advance and they don't post a diversion but leave you to work it out for yourself.

People who moan about middle lane sitting on motorways. I get it, it's annoying. But it's about 251st on the list of driving annoyances!

People like this are so annoying aren't they. Happens so often on my local train line too. And they get on with small kids. There aren't reservations so they're not being allocated seats in the quiet carriage - they just see the sign and decide to sit there with noisy squealy kid anyway.

I thought of another one - not so much for me because I was up and about but my neighbour started using a noisy power tool about 9am this morning. I think that's too early for a Sunday.

Neuronimo · 19/04/2026 18:59

People who slump over their supermarket trolley (excluding those who are older or have disabilities) and then have to walk really slowly because they can't control the direction and can't see where they are going.
