Tiny Thai place

Glasses: cloudy

Ants walking across the table

about 250 + dishes on the (very grubby) menu

and a hygiene rating on the door of three out of five

i've done this numerous times.

the chief reason is that i go into the place and wait ages and ages for any sort of service.

adios.

Hassled · 19/06/2008 20:45

I've given up in a huff after waiting longer than I felt reasonable just to get given a menu or asked if I'd like a drink. Ants, cloudy glasses, grubby menu - I'd have been out of there like a shot.
There's nothing quite as satisfying as a petulant strop in a restaurant .

mummymusings · 19/06/2008 20:46

hardly! me and dp went to a thai place that was raved about. was a very quiet sunday the only other 2 people in there were a man and his companion (man dressed as a trampy woman - no joke!) food was appalling then a woman came out set herself up on the table behind me STEAM IRONING the washing!!! OMG, we stayed because it was so so so bad it was brilliant. obviously would never darken the door again.

bobblehat · 19/06/2008 20:53

I've done this a few times.

I'm veggie, and one restaurant we went to was advertised as veggie friendly. So we went. There were 2 veggie dishes and I had a difficult choice to make between mashed potato or seasonal vegetables. Obviously both together would just be too much excitement

AnyFuleKno · 19/06/2008 20:56

YANBU, I have left restauants loads of times. Even after ordering drinks (paid for them obv). If I don't fancy anything on the menu I just up and leave to find somewhere better.

Sounds like in this case an anonymous tip off to the environmental health would not be an unreasonable course of action. let alone leaving before you had ordered.

saggyhairyarse · 19/06/2008 20:56

dirty glasses and ants not boding well.

Always go to the toilets before you order at a restaurant you've not been to before. If they don't keep the loos clean, there is slim chance the kitchen will be.

lulumama · 19/06/2008 20:58

absolutely not!!

if the bits you can see are dirty, then god knows what the kitchen will be like

mummymusings · 19/06/2008 21:06

oh i love checking out the toilets in a restaurant, is that sad?

anorak · 19/06/2008 21:08

I've walked out too. I can't see anyone thinking that unreasonable emkana.

expatinscotland · 19/06/2008 21:12

i went to a chinese cafe in denver once, where you load food on your plate from a buffet and then pay for it at the end of the line.

well, when i put my hand in the cutlery bin before the tills, there was a roach crawling across them, over the cutlery.

a BIG, winged cockroach.

so i refused to pay and the lady actually got arsey when i discreetly told her it was because of the roach.

so i bellowed, 'there's a giant ROACH' crawling across the cutlery in here!'

she didn't persue me any further.

Washersaurus · 19/06/2008 21:13

I've walked out twice; once without paying for our drinks because we had been waiting 1.5+hrs and then witnessed the chef stropping out of the kitchen, and once after we had eaten our starters in an Indian Restaurant because there was a long wait for the main course and we were starving-we complained and they gave us a voucher for a free meal next time and let us off paying for what we'd eaten and drank.

ChukkyPig · 19/06/2008 21:20

Blimey Emkana! Is it in north london? I think I've been there!!

We didn't walk out though, we should have done, it was awful.

I have contented myself with slagging the place off at every given opportunity!

AlistairSim · 19/06/2008 21:31

I can't abide a grubby menu.
