To hope I might be in with a chance? Any senior nurses here please?

I've seen a fantastic job vacancy in a department at my local hospital for an HCA. I have plenty of experience in supporting people with the medical condition, just not medically or clinically. I'm not qualified in healthcare neither. If you are a clinical specialist, would you give someone like me a chance at a role like this if I was open to all the training needed to get me up to par?

Yes I would. Go for it. And good luck.

Can’t hurt to ask. Good luck.

No reason not to give you a chance!

Go through the person specification and address each point within your personal statement. Demonstrate how you meet the criteria, it’ll give you the best chance of being interviewed

Fatiguedwithlife · 19/04/2026 00:48

If you have the criteria then yes why not?

Feralbookworm · 19/04/2026 01:06

I’d go for it. I’m a nurse and I’ve seen lots of HCAs come in without formal experience. Some people it they can’t get into an nhs role would go into a private care role I.e nursing home or Homecare for 6-12 months then apply for position in their local trust. Search up things for interviews like what they’re looking for. Fundamentals of care, assisting patients with activities of daily living. Promoting independence etc etc good luck

Does the job spec ask for qualifications?

Newyearawaits · 19/04/2026 15:52

Please go for it but as someone involved in HCA recruitment, I need to inform you that there is an enormous number of applicants.
Please prepare your supporting information very carefully.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm going to go for it. I'm so excited about this role and honestly, if I got the job, it would be so interesting and I'd be eager to learn everything there is to be the best that I could.
