to be driven up the wall by my manager constantly going on about being hungry?

My manager spends all day talking about how hungry she is. She eats normally. It is just this running commentary that never ends.

She will finish a call and immediately say that’s made her hungry. She will go round asking everyone if they’ve had their lunch. If I say no, she will keep telling them to have it.

She will have a meeting, come out of it and say it made her hungry. Rinse and repeat all day.

It is constant. Every meeting, every gap, every bit of small talk turns into her talking about being hungry. If I ask her about something, she will say that has made me hungry.

It is relentless and draining to listen to.

Bring in the cheapest pack.of own brand plain biscuits you can find and leave them near her

CynicalSunni · 18/04/2026 08:43

Have a bag of sweets in your pocket and offer one every time she says she's hungry.

PurpleDisco · 18/04/2026 08:43

Possibly an eating disorder or Tourette’s?

DownyBirch · 18/04/2026 08:44

Ask her if she is having treatment for it.

Evaka · 18/04/2026 08:51

What?! Who are these maniacs?

I have colleagues who eat all day. They don't really have meals so just graze. It's annoying.

AuntChippy · 18/04/2026 08:59

I have a colleague who’s fixated on food. She snacks all day and has lunch. She’s always saying that I ‘never eat’ (I do) and always despairing that she’s overweight. 🤯

I have a colleague who doesn’t seem to eat a proper meal, she brings a punnet of raspberries and grapes in and eats them through the day along with a bag of (i think) granola. But I only notice when talking to her so other than that I don’t notice.
Why does your colleague annoy you by grazing?!

Op I too would be driven mad by your managers one topic of conversation - why doesn’t she just bring more food if she’s constantly hungry?!

The noise of it. Usually doesn't smell, but can occasionally. The talk about it all the time and I just don't want to be in an environment where people are constantly eating (or talking about it).

MissCooCooMcgoo · 18/04/2026 09:02

Some people are always hungry despite "eating normally" why do you think weight loss medication is so popular!

Granted, I don't go on about it. But I could eat 3 square meals a day and graze in between and still feel empty. It's a medical issue.

Gwenhwyfar · 18/04/2026 09:03

"why doesn’t she just bring more food if she’s constantly hungry?!"

If it's constant, then it's probably not real hunger isn't it.
Boredom is a huge thing that makes people eat in offices, but maybe less likely at manager level.

She is like that with me too asking have I eaten and trying to get me to have snacks. I don't eat between meals. I will only ever have lunch at work and some days I might not. She can't seem to fathom that some people do not want to eat all day.

She does bring food and she will go and buy extra food too. Everything seems to trigger her hunger for some reason even a meeting or phone call.

Rainbowdottie · 18/04/2026 10:27

It’s attention seeking if it has to be said after every task and she actually has extra food. Weird but there you go. Most people will just say god I’m starving! And go eat.
either say nothing or say have a biscuit on rinse and repeat without even looking up

LittleMissClutter · 18/04/2026 10:31

Offer her some worming tablets.

Elsvieta · 18/04/2026 10:59

She might appear to eat a normal lunch, but you can't know what she eats the rest of the time. Maybe she's starving herself at home? Is she fat / thin / average?

Does anyone actually say anything to her? Like, "You know, you say that a lot - maybe you're not having enough breakfast"?

StevieNic · 18/04/2026 11:01

Recommend Mounjaro

We don't say anything to her because she is the manager. She could be starving herself at home I guess but she spends all day eating in the office for some reason as every single little thing makes her hungry.

She is average.

Ask her if she is having treatment for it.

This is brilliant! 👌🏻

whoputallofthatthere · 18/04/2026 11:06

I'm always hungry because of a medical condition and I don't absorb the nutrients from my food properly, so my body always wants more, more, more. So I'm one of those people who snacks at work all day. I try not to eat anything smelly/noisy etc in the office though and I certainly don't rabbit on about it.

Thepeopleversuswork · 18/04/2026 11:15

I don’t really understand why you wouldn’t just ignore this?

That is fine and it wouldn't be an issue.

Do things never annoy you? Do you ignore every single thing that annoys you and never mention it ever?
