AIBU, Is my neighbour a CF?

Earlier this week my NDN knocked on our door to advise he was having some landscaping work done, and the workers would be spraying the garden with weedkiller. We have a cat that sometimes goes in the garden so he was letting us know so we could keep cat indoors.

I came home from work today to find a portaloo with the landscapers name on, on my land right up against my house. We are detached and have a strip of lawn between our houses then I have some paving (basically a path that goes nowhere) and a fence with no gate, as our access is at other side. The portaloo is sited on my side, and gives easy access to their gate so the workers can get in and out.

I'm rather bemused, if I was going to contract a company who were bringing their own loo:
A) I would find somewhere on my own plot to put it
B) if a) was not possible I would approach my neighbours and ask them very nicely if I could put a loo on their land

AIBU to expect that people don't put toilets on other people's land? Are my neighbours CF?

Does the neighbour know they have done this? I’d go over at earliest opportunity and ask him to get it removed asap.

Bluegreenbird · 17/04/2026 21:37

Neighbours may have had no idea they were going to put it there. Do you care?

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 17/04/2026 21:37

I don't know. But I'm guessing so as they must see it when they come into their drive or open their garage. I'm not talking about a couple of acres, this is a normal suburban street.

I'm not sure. I can't see it from any of my windows but it is right up against my wall, and if it leaks could cause some damage? My experience of portaloo is limited to Glastonbury, but I would prefer ymnot to have stenches or leaks of human sewage.

Would a diagram help to visualise it (I understand it is the first rule of mumsnet)

I’d ask them to move it.

Overthebow · 17/04/2026 21:44

Tell them to move it.

TheBirdintheCave · 17/04/2026 21:44

Uh… I’d not be putting up with someone sticking a toilet on my land. Definitely say something.

NotEnoughRoom · 17/04/2026 21:46

Is it near any windows? If it’s there long enough to need emptying (rather than just taking away again) it will absolutely stink!

outerspacepotato · 17/04/2026 21:47

Get your butt over there and tell them that's unacceptable.

Since when does spraying weedkiller require a porta potty? They should be in and out.

IfWhippetsRuledTheWorld · 17/04/2026 21:47

Definitely ask them to move it, bloody rude to put it there without asking and not saying anything gives the green light for them to use the space for other reasons (storing building materials, etc).

Iloveacurry · 17/04/2026 21:48

They need to move it, definitely CFs!

8misskitty8 · 17/04/2026 21:49

Have you been round to tell your neighbour to get it moved to their own garden ?
Or phoned the company to tell them they have left a toilet in your garden and it needs to be moved.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 17/04/2026 21:50

Do you not have a gate as well?

Trusttheawesome · 17/04/2026 21:51

I’d be telling them to move it, purely because my parents had one during some big renovations and it was knocked and spilled when they came to empty it. No idea how they did that, but I wouldn’t have one on my land at all now.

Nofeckingway · 17/04/2026 21:51

How long do they plan to be there ?! Definitely ask neighbour to have it moved.

ShakyBake · 17/04/2026 21:53

This exact scenario happened to an old neighbour of ours (on the other side with number 48) and ended in a disaster. Basically, a decision was made that the builders would only do numbers 1's and no number 2's but the roofer took his blowtouch in and accidentally set it alight and it burnt down and now they don't speak at all

Also, what does CF mean?

😲 Well, that escalated fast.

CF - Cheeky F*cker

OP - get it moved. You don’t need that precedent!

B1anche · 17/04/2026 21:56

Another MN post where a problem could have been resolved in 5 mins with a bit of communication. Why did you not go straight round and tell them to move it?

Floatingdownriver · 17/04/2026 21:57

Is it bothering you?

Thank you

Roofer told the police it was accidental and case closed but even after 4 years the green stain of molten plastic from the fire is still visible on their drive

I thought it stood for CF - C*NT FACE

Glad that's been explained!

Yes they are being a cf!

He took his blow torch into the portaloo? Was he scared of spiders or something?

Can’t stop laughing at this 😆😆

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 17/04/2026 22:08

Haha, love the alternatives to CF. They weren't in when I got home from work. I can see their car is there now, but I'm not going out in my Pj's. The landscapers were here yesterday spraying, the rotavating? Today. Whatever they did had a machine and was noisy. I think they are going to lay a patio and lawn or gravel or whatever. So they are getting the whole thing done which will take several days. I'm guessing they wouldn't have bothered bringing a portaloo if it was going to be a small job.

Thanks (!) for the portaloo horror stories, my dh is threatening to have a vindaloo and then Visit it. But that won't resolve the problem!
