To ask you to explain US sanctions to me like I'm 5?

So America has sanctioned Irans oil (the lift is actually expiring but same thing). What does that actually mean ?? Can they like seize ships carrying their oil in international waters? That seems ridiculous. But it can't possibly just mean America won't buy it becuase they wouldnt sell it to them anyway.

So what does the sanction actually mean in real terms, what's the actual "restriction" and what's the "consequence"

What ‘sanction’ means to the wider more intelligent and cerebrally continent world is not necessarily the same as it means to the wildly erratic festering bawbag currently masquerading as President of the USA.

They've blockaded the straits. This means that no ships can get in our out. Previously Iran was permitting ships that were destined for allies of Iran free passage. The idea is that now China and India will really start to feel the pinch and put pressure on Iran to make a deal with the US and the blockade will be lifted.

The U.S. Says :
"We dont like what Iran is doing, so we're going to make it difficult for them to sell their oil." = Sanction
This is done by the U.S. telling other countries that if they buy the oil from Iran the are likely to face punishment from the U.S for this. Things like cutting off access to US banks or in worst case scenario, cutting the country/company off from trading with/within the US.
Basically the Sanction scares the buyers of the oil into not buying/trading with Iran. This causes Iran to lose money.
