How do clairvoyants know things??

Homer2 · 14/04/2026 13:45

I have never believed in this, I saw one once just for fun at my aunties house and she wasn’t great. She did say a few things that were accurate, but I put this down to being guesses or general vague things that would be relevant to the majority of people.

However, recently my friend went to one. She recently lost her dad and her partner. Without telling the clairvoyant anything, she knew how her partner died and what his name was. She mentioned my friends dad blowing kisses in a weird way, with the palm of his hand instead of his fingers, which is something he did used to do. How would she know these things??? I don’t honestly believe in it, but can’t understand how she’d know such specific things

Maybe she knows things because she is actually clairvoyant!! Lol

I believe in it. Didn't used to, but have had far too many weird things happen now.

Many years ago, I decided to leave my first H, due to his continued cheating. I had not told a living soul about this. One night my H was out, and I was sat browsing the internet looking at houses, to see what I could afford on my own. My phone then rang and it was my Mum. She explained that they'd been to the village hall that had a Medium night on. She went on to tell me, that a Medium had told her that she could hear someone calling out my name, and to tell me that a move of house was indicated, a good man, and happiness. My Mum obviously thought it was nonsense, as in her mind I was happy. I should add here, that I have a VERY unusual name. I did indeed leave, get a new house, and met my now DH.

This same Medium told my Mum that she would come into possession of a guitar in unusual circumstances, and that she would win the lottery. About a year after the reading, my parents were sitting in the garden at midnight, and a guitar came flying over the fence, and landed on the lawn. Then, a few weeks later, they did indeed win the lottery (£20k).

Mum is no longer with us, and I was watching a Medium on Tiktok, who told me that if you want contact from loved ones who have passed, you have to ask out loud for it and ask for a sign. I asked out loud for my Mum to show me a butterfly. I didn't tell anyone about this. A few weeks later, on Mother's Day, my DH gave me a card from the dogs. It was a plain card, with a pin badge in the centre of a beautiful butterfly. I wear it on my coat now.

Shortly after that, I asked my Mum to show me a bumblebee. The next day, I see a FB advert posted by a lady with the same name as my Mum, who happens to make woollen bumblebees. The name of her company was my Mum's favourite flower.

I asked about 2 weeks ago for Mum to show me a feather in an unusual place. The next day, my dog was sitting in the garden with a white feather stuck to his lips! This has never happened before!

DH and I were talking about MIL one day, she has also passed away. One of us said something a bit negative and a huge canvas flew off the wall.

I saw a Medium a few months ago - the first and only time I have ever done so. My friend booked it, and gave the Medium no details about us whatsoever, not even our names. This Medium knew my Mum's name. Not the initial or anything vague, she said the right name, first time. She also knew lots of things she had no way of knowing. She knew that the adoption my son was talking about, was no longer going to happen. She said my son was about to meet a new woman - this has now happened. She said that my Mum mentioned that someone had been taking naked selfies! Bear in mind, I'm mid 50's! I denied this of course, but actually I had sent DH a saucy selfie a few days before - the only time I have ever done so in our 17 years together. She knew what my husband's job is. She knew that I had a sibling that passed and what their name started with. She knew that the day after the reading was a special day for my Mum (it was their wedding anniversary).

My Mum went to see a Medium many years ago. She had just lost her sister. She (my aunt) was called Pauline, but close friends called her Polly for short. The Medium was rubbish. Went they all got up to leave, a woman who had been sat next to my Mum in the audience said "That guy was rubbish. He didn't give anyone any real detail. I mean, you'd want someone to say" :

"Hey, I have your sister here, her name was Pauline, but everyone called her Polly for short".....

My Mum was convinced that her sister used someone else to get the message through.

I have a few more like this. Very strange! I now believe! Just because you can't see something doesn't mean it isn't there. You can't see radio waves or your broadband signal, but they are very much there regardless!

Love your post X
I also believe.I have also been given lots of signs from my dad after he passed away 12 years ago (when I asked for them). Of course there are always going to be charlatans (just like in any line of work....im thinking about rogue/dodgy builders) but there are people who have that ability

Beetlebum89 · 15/04/2026 05:05

I went to one. She was constantly looking over my shoulder, as if someone were beside me or behind me. She told me spookily accurate things she could not possibly have known. My spirit guides were present, apparently. That's who she kept looking at & who told her this information.

EvieBB · 15/04/2026 05:09

Wow I'm surprised how many people are sceptical here. Of course there are charlatans who claim to be able to receive messages from the deceased, but that doesn't mean that there aren't people ot there who can tune in to different frequencies.
I've always been an ultra sensitive person and in my mid 30's, whilst lying in bed one morning in a very relaxed state, I suddenly felt my ears undergoing a weird sensation (like tuning into a radio station) and then I heard a male voice speaking to me. I was absolutely freaked out. This had never happened before and I was beyond shocked. It lasted about 5 seconds. I'm not schizophrenic lol. I don't regularly hear voices. It happened again about 3 years later. I was totally convinced after that that there is far more to this existence than we realise...

AlwaysTheRenegade · 15/04/2026 05:22

What sort of accurate things @Beetlebum89 ?

I SO want to be open and peaceful about these things! But I just feel very odd about paying a stranger to tell me vague messages from my loved ones.

I really wish I could find comfort in it, but it honestly just makes me upset thinking about a stranger, I've paid, telling me (probably the same stuff they tell everyone) things about my own loved ones.

What did this male voice say to you?
Has he spoken to you since?

CherryRipe1 · 15/04/2026 06:52

I thought alot of it was cold reading and clever guessing until a lady abroad did my friend's, impromptu for no fee & knew nothing about her. It was scarily accurate with bizarre details she couldnt have known. My freind turned pale & was a bit shaken! She offered to do mine but I was a bit freaked out & declined.

ruffler45 · 15/04/2026 06:54

Simple answer is they dont. There is one that comes regularly to a pub near us , you have to book appointments to see her, surely if they were that good they would know who and when they were turning up?

OctopusFriend · 15/04/2026 07:06

Genuine question for those who believe in clairvoyancy - do you think that the future is already mapped out, and that you can't make changes to it?

mypantsareonfire · 15/04/2026 07:17

I’ve told my kids that when I die, if they get sucked in to giving a medium money, if it’s real, I’ll prove it by giving my full name, national insurance number and last known address.

None of this wishy washy, “oh I’ve got a woman, maybe her name starts with a c…” nonsense.

SassyButClassy · 15/04/2026 07:18

They don't.

I don’t believe, but I do believe it’s mapped out.

There are SO many things I have tried to do in life, things that I wanted to do, believed they were for the best at the time and they have been weirdly blocked. They just didn’t work out no matter how hard I tried, everything turned to shit, didn’t work out, something awful happened. And then it turned out that it was for the best - it just wasn’t meant to be and that’s why it was so hard.

I believe that everything happens for a reason, even the awful stuff, and when your number is up, it’s up.

Please don’t be so patronising. I remember her words exactly. Did you even read my post? Absolutely NO-ONE knew of my termination. Cold reading was not a part in my particular experience.

If you want to give your general comments, then please don’t tag me and patronise me and my post like that.

It's exactly the tone reserved for those with ridiculous beliefs

Googling the person who makes a booking probably and Facebook stalking them. It's creepy and exploitative.

This.

Neighbour sees one on a regular basis. This clairvoyant charges £50 an hour and is the nosiest person around. Facebook is her friend.

It's all vague and general obvious stuff but suckers pay her but perhaps they take comfort from 'your mum is watching you and proud' and think hearing that is worth the money 💰

We are human and have free will to make changes. For example, I could have declined the rental house I was shown even though it exactly matched the clairvoyant’s description of somewhere I would live. I could have chosen something different. I see my destiny as a line in the sand. I can go off the line if I choose to but the line is still there.

Right. So you have no agency at all? You can't change your future?
What's the point then? I believe that we make choices in life and guide our own destinies, learn from mistakes and manage the good with the bad.
So if a clairvoyant told me I'd move into a house with blue wallpaper, I'd think - only if that house was the right price and location for me.

Itwasallyellow2 · 15/04/2026 07:28

There are no doubt some charlatans and there are others who are developing clairvoyancy / mediumship skills which might not be finely tuned yet. However there are some other people who have a natural gift to connect with spirit. When they give you a message which only you know and it is so precise that even our logical brain struggles to argue with it, you know for sure it’s spirit.

Yeah sure they do. While they take the money of vulnerable desperate people.

I have tried and tried and it’s been like a game of whack a mole.

So no, I don’t believe you can change your destiny.

You can believe you can change yours though, I’m not in control of what you think.

And there is no fucking point to life. I felt a lot freer an less stressed when I accepted that.

But I also wouldn’t move into a house that a medium told me too as I don’t belive in them and wouldn’t have seen one in the first place.

Yes, I believe that you can make changes in your life, improve it and live in a more fulfilled way.
That's why we have brains and intellect and agency. I respect and admire those who have pushed against their odds.
However, you don't, and you believe in pre destination, like the Parliament of the Saints. The Chosen.
So I suppose clairvoyancy does make sense with that set of beliefs.

I absolutely do not deny science , i work with science but i know how my own mind works and i know what my experience was , i could say so much more about it but choose not too.
I find it quite bizarre how some people are so closed off and refuse to believe that there may be more beyond what we know and even you can't deny how much we do not know.
As i said i believe that the vast majority of people who call themselves mediums are absolutely not and many are totally fraudulent , but there are some people who have 'something' i don't know what, why or how but they do.
Maybe sometime in your life someone like the person i experienced will cross your path and you may change your mind.
If it's me you were referring to i wasn't angry.

If, when presented with an explanation on the basic fundaments of how memory works - i.e. THE memory, everyone’s memory - you claim it doesn’t apply to you, then yes you are denying science.

Why is it, on this thread as well as generally, those who are so definitely convinced by their psychic experience, who bullishly reject every possible explanation - won’t even consider them - are the ones claiming to be open-minded?

What did he "know"?

He 'knew' (sorry, that was the wrong word to use) that the girls had died very shortly after their abduction and hadn't 'run away', he described the assailant's physical appearance with chilling accuracy, he identified key alphabetic clues in various locations, could 'see' the view out of the house where they died and particular details of the deposition site, etc. I'm not a natural 'believer' in any of this, but all of this turned my head.

Kevin's book is well worth reading, by the way - there's a slightly more recent 'ten years on' version with an extra chapter at the end.
