AIBU to ask you what car should I get

Family finances drastically changed for the worse recently and we need to get different car.
We could scrape together £11k, but that will get us 6-7yo car. Is it better to get 2/3yo cal on finance? We are going to get an electric car.

Do your homework with the electric 2nd hand cars before you buy, especially the batteries, as to replace them is ££'s

I wouldn’t get a 6 or 7 year old electric car. The technology has moved on since then. 2 or 3 years perhaps. What about hybrid?

It also depends on the size of car you need.

With your situation you’d be mad to get electric. Get a hybrid Toyota, as they have a good warranty. I’d go for the newest car I could afford.

Thanks to their crazy depreciation you can get electric cars considerably newer than 6-7 years old for £11k. Are you missing out some sort of requirement for range/size etc (in which case FFS why do people do that?!). Tbh the idea that - your finances having recently changed for the worse - that now is the time to take on (often expensive) finance for a second hand car seems mad to me, but I'm old-fashioned like that. But then I'm also perfectly happy using a 12 year old, 170k mile car as our main family bus, which I'm sure would horrify many people.

I got a 3 year old vw id3 which is electric for £14k. Could you stretch a bit? Costs £2.50 to charge. Which for me is £25 a month instead of £140. Consider how much you can save with electric. I would never go back. Hybrid are more expensive.

Toyota yaris hybrid electric
No way wpuld I get a fully electric thats 6 yr old

Why does it need to be electric???

I prefer an electric car, as I already have charger at my house and know how much cheaper is it to run an electric vehicle. I live on the outskirts of London and drive locally only, no long journeys.
I only need a normal-sized car for 4 people.
