To wonder if being a teacher is really worth it?

Another Sunday spent planning all day, whilst Dh and Dc were having a day out.
I taught in schools for many years full time until Dc was born, it became my whole life and I knew I couldn’t dedicate to both.
I work with mainly homeschooling families part time. I enjoy it, but put in a great deal of time, effort and often my own money for what amounts to not much in return. I adore the children I teach, but payments are often late, I have to chase up and ask for some, which feels so disrespectful. Now on the other side as a parent, I hear how some parents speak about their children’s teachers, the assumption that they know better or can easily just teach to the same level of homeschooling etc.
I firmly believe that the majority of teachers bend over backwards to do a good job, put their heart and soul into it and for very little in return these days, it’s sad.

You're going to get short shrift I fear on here @Somanyweirdthingsintheworldatthemo , as there are numerous posts from teachers who decry the difficulty of their profession and the perceptions of it.

They generally tend to get met with the icy response of "well you chose it" and "you get tons of holidays" etc...

As for me, I am not sure which of the points you're trying to make in your post, is the key one. What is it you feel overall about teaching?
