AIBU to not understand how fan oven temperature works?!

We have a fan oven so if a recipe says 180c (150c fan) then I set it to 150c. But then the temperature display says 180c. Is my oven running too hot or is that what it’s supposed to do. I have googled this to no avail! Picture to show what I mean.

I have no idea I've never seen an oven like that did you try chatgpt

Yes that’s exactly right - fan assisted ovens keep the hot air moving so their effective temperature is higher, thus you don’t need to set them as high!

No, it’s not right.

A fan assisted oven moves the air around which allows heat energy to transfer more effectively to the food, so it achieves the same cooking result with a lower temperature.

But if the thermostat is set to 150 degrees then the actual temperature in the oven should be 150 degrees (give or take a bit as the thermostat clicks on and off).

I go by the oven thermometer clipped on to a shelf to check the temperature. If I’d set it to 150 and it read 180 I’d assume the oven is heating more than it should so would lower the dial.

Thanks everyone. My gut said the oven was running too hot. I even have an oven thermometer which also says 180 inside. I just started doubting myself if 150 fan might mean it made the temp 180 but that doesn’t really make sense! So oven is glitching and I’ll turn down the temp knob.
