I am a manager working in research (charity sector). I've done my current job for two years. When I interviewed I was promised line management experience upon expansion of our team within 12 months. It never happened and due to 'financial circs' is now unlikely to happen. I am now stuck in a management position with nobody to manage, but all jobs I can find that provide a pay increase (even just 4-5k) list line management experience as essential. I cannot afford to take a backwards step financially, and just don't know what to do. Realistically people with line management experience are always going to get hired over people without. All my applications are being rejected, and the two I interviewed for stated lack of line management as a barrier. I have suggested getting an intern at work to no avail, and have done a leadership course, but it's such a hurdle. I dont know what to do.
