To think it's time to ban threads about dogs in shops and cafes?

It's getting really tedious. How many have we had now?

I love dogs.
Always had dogs.
Donate to dog charities!
Pretty dog mad

But...I'm horrified by how people act with dogs in cafes, on two separate occasions I've witnessed someone letting their dog lick the plate and another time drinking out of a glass...Some dog owners have no shame at all.

nocoolnamesleft · 11/04/2026 16:04

If they banned dogs in shops and cafes then there would be no threads about their annoying and needless presence.

igelkott2026 · 11/04/2026 16:12

It always amazes me that people moan about threads they don't like.

There's always the option of scrolling past. If I think a thread looks boring or tedious or just not interesting for me I don't open it!

See also threads about covid and Brexit which were put in a naughty corner.

Also true!

HeddaGarbled · 11/04/2026 16:15

@EveryKneeShallBow

Yes, and also the daily threads about how mean and nasty we all are

Oh, yes please 🙏

PuzzlesintheMorning · 11/04/2026 12:48

You are definitely being unreasonable.

I love "Dogs shouldn't be allowed in cafés and restaurants" posts, because they shouldn't. Everyone needs reminding. Every day, if necessary

Exactly.
You said it first.

Nimonion · 11/04/2026 16:22

I’m really sick of the dog lovers that think we love their dogs too. Many people don’t, and don’t want your choice to get a dog to interfere with with their lives.

for instance don’t want to smell wet dog in a cafe, I don’t want your dog knocking my toddler off its feet (even if ‘its friendly’), I don’t want to hear incessant barking. Is this an unreasonable stance to take? Because I find it incredibly entitled that you think you have the right to disrupt our lives just because you chose to get a dog.

Reallywhat · 11/04/2026 16:48

I don’t get how many of them aren’t just classed as threads about threads. They’re just repetitive talking about the same thing

FemBotinaManputerWorld · 11/04/2026 16:58

I mean, you could say the same thing about:
SAHM threads
Only child threads
Annoying kids/ noisy adults in cafe/ restaurant
Neighbour has done something with my parcel/ I’m sick of accepting parcels for my neighbours
MIL/ in-law complaints
Guess how old I am/ guess my weight
Going grey
Vanity sizing/ people have lost sight of what a healthy weight is threads…
and so on. MN is made up of basically the same threads reiterated over and over.
Dogs in Cafes is one of the greatest hits. It’ll keep being replayed til it stops getting a reaction.

cubistqueen · 11/04/2026 17:00

I read a bit of the last thread, then hid it and took my golden out for coffee 😂

YeOldeGreyhound · 11/04/2026 15:58

A dog in a dog friendly place is not in an unsuitable place.

It is if the place serves or sells food and drinks.

emmetgirl · 11/04/2026 17:10

I’ll probably get flamed for this.
I own a cafe bar. We allow well behaved dogs in. I love meeting them I really do. BUT it’s a business decision. Where we are, loads of people have dogs. It’s also a holiday destination and lots of people bring their dogs on holiday with them. We attract a lot of customers that come in because they can bring their dog. There are other cafes near us that don’t allow them so people who don’t want to be around dogs can go there.
If at some point in the future it becomes more advantageous for us to NOT allow dogs in, we would stop allowing them in.
I think you’ll find that this is the process by which businesses make these types of decisions.

Blimms · 11/04/2026 17:12

This is a thread about dogs in shops and cafes

greyweek · 11/04/2026 17:15

xOlive · 11/04/2026 12:05

I imagine that whats a lot of people feel like when they walk into a cafe and see a dog.
Or when they go clothes shopping and there’s a dog.
Absolutely mental that people take their dogs shopping like they’re children 😂 but I also wouldn’t start a thread about it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t go out much and was quite bemused hearing some yapping inside the local John Lewis yesterday.
One person - multiple dogs.
Ive missed all the threads, it seems. I need them to assure myself it’s not me going mad.

You effectively done exactly what you're asking to be banned. It was obviously going to descend into a should they / shouldn't they thread.

So well done for that . Another thread to add to the others 😂

ACynicalDad · 11/04/2026 17:20

But the arguments are so persuasive, always different and not at all tribal. Let’s have one daily!

You forgot ones about how selfish cyclists are and complaining about a DH who doesn’t lift a finger round the house

No it isn't.

Thepeopleversuswork · 11/04/2026 17:39

I wouldn’t ban them because banning usually backfires.

But I do find them unbelievably tedious.

Into the same toxic sin bin would go:

Threads about weight loss
Threads about London being some dystopian hellscape where everyone is stabbed on sight
Threads that start: “AIBU or is this peri?”
Threads where someone bangs on about being an introvert

Zov · 11/04/2026 17:45

@Whatexcellentboiledpotatoes

Well I think we should ban threads complaining about 'dogs in cafes and shops' threads!

Just kidding. Grin I agree!

Still, it makes a change from all the threads bashing Taylor Swift! We haven't had one for a few months now! Surely one should surface soon! 😆

I agree with all of that except the last line. Smile I don't mind introverts. I'm not one really, but I'm not an extrovert. (More of a free spirit.)

Weight loss injection threads can get in the bin! I have hidden the WLI board, so don't see them often, but there was a point where they were doing my head in!

Thepeopleversuswork · 11/04/2026 17:50

Not to derail the thread but I have nothing at all against genuine introverts. The point is that the vast majority of these threads are not started by introverts, they are started by grumpy misanthropes and socially anxious people who can't cope with basic social etiquette and meeting people face to face. But don't get me started...

Zov · 11/04/2026 17:51

Fair enough @Thepeopleversuswork I get you. 😘

AgnesMcDoo · 11/04/2026 17:52

It’s so strange isn’t it 😅 I know somebody who has two pet pigs, I’d love to see her walking those round M&S 😂
