DH doesn’t want me to take pain relief for a better diagnosis

I have Endo and Adeno, currently swapping gynae. Not happy with my current treatment path. Next step before another referral is an internal ultrasound (again) as part of the pre referral obs. They are extremely painful for me due to the Adeno So I planned to take some Valium and codiene before so it wouldn’t hurt. He thought that was wrong and are currently not talking because he thought my strategy to avoid paid wouldn’t give them them the best diagnosis. Please assure me he is 1000000000% in the wrong ai

Your husband is wrong.

It’s not like a celiac disease test where you need to continue eating gluten (even if it causes pain and diarrhea etc )for the test to be accurate. Taking pain meds won’t mask adeno and endo.

If you’re not confident check with a medical professional.

WearyAuldWumman · 10/04/2026 14:08

I took valium/diazepam before my most recent ultrasounds for post-menopausal bleeding. (Phoned and checked with the department beforehand.)

Tell your DH to stick a probe up his penis without pain relief.

AxolotlEars · 10/04/2026 14:08

An internal ultrasound is 'looking' for something, not assessing your pain.

I've had gas and air for some gynae examinations!

If your communication style is 'not speaking' rather than 'giving some space' you have a problem. If he is not speaking to you, I suggest he has an internal ultrasound himself!

CookingFatCat · 10/04/2026 14:10

WTH - he’s not talking to you because you want to make decisions about your body.

Utter tosser. Does he have form for being a controlling prick?

SurreySideEye · 10/04/2026 14:12

Forgive me but this is one decision you should be making, it has nothing to do with him !

SqueakyDinosaur · 10/04/2026 14:14

Your husband may be a sadist. He is definitely a moron.

Wishimaywishimight · 10/04/2026 14:17

You are clearly not asking, seriously, if he is right?

Just tell him to fuck off and if you want his opinion you will ask for it.

overwork · 10/04/2026 15:44

I perform transvaginal ultrasounds. Take the painkiller if you want one. I completely assure you it will not make the slightest difference to the results of the scan

GinaandGin · 10/04/2026 15:47

He sounds stupid and controlling

dreamlove · 10/04/2026 15:50

He’s 100% in the wrong
its like saying don’t take painkillers before an MRI of your back - it’s not going to affect anything at all
i have adenomyosis and stage 4 DIE and took painkillers before mine as I was on my period when they scanned me

Luckyingame · 10/04/2026 16:14

This idiot needs to keep his opinion to himself.
