What the hell happened to Cornettos?

They used to be posh. If you bought a Cornetto you were a classy discerning customer with an edge of sophistication that Mr Whippy purchasers could only dream of. From the highly concentrated syrup, to the smooth and luscious ice cream, to the thick crisp cone, they were a portable culinary delight.

So when I bought a pack in Home Bargains I congratulated myself on having come so far in the world that I could acquire not only one but six of these beauties all for myself.

But what a disappointment. They're tiny, for starters. The tiny squirts of syrup are pale and taste like a cold vegan fruit pastille. The ice cream is like a frozen version of some dodgy grey-goods marshmallow. And the cone is pale and soft. The entire thing is an abomination.

This happens so often now - I buy something to eat that used to be nice and it turns out it's now rubbish. Who the fuck decided to make our food nasty?

DH and I were discussing this last night! I feel your pain!

Morrisons ones are pretty good. My fave was minty Feasts. And minty Wispas. Aldi Feast dupes are an abomination.

I actually prefer the own brand cones to cornetto. The ice cream in a Cornetto has no flavour at all, it’s like frozen milk.

May I ask a question please? Do Toffee Crumbles still exist?

We would have that as a treat after a Sunday roast every now and then when I was a kid. I have carried the tradition on with my dc 🤣

I never remember Cornettos being posh but I do still enjoy one every now and then from an ice cream vendor. The toffee one every time.

Vienettas I remember being posh once upon a time. I still get a chufty when someone brings a Vienetta to a family meal.

The M&S chocolate ones are delicious.

I so agree @Ochtawa and I have a real pang of disappointment over the soggy cornet. But one of my few claims to fame, is that I knew the two guys who came up with the Just One Cornetto jingle as one of them went out with my sister...

Aldi own brand mint ones are the best. There’s a big wodge of gooey chocolate in the middle.

Another vote for Morrisons or Aldi blag cornettos. They are lovely!

And Lidl do fab crisps

As a tangent, does anyone remember when they started to sell a box of Cornetto ends? It was just chocolate and wafer. I think they were called Cornetto Tips or something. Came out a few years ago but not sure if they're still around.

5 miniscule treats for about £3. Come to think of it, maybe that's why I never see them anymore!

I liked the idea but not the price so I bought some fancy waffle cones, smashed them, chucked them on a tray of melted chocolate I just happened to have around, let it set and ... hey presto, chop it into chunks, stuff in face, lovely. Not something i fancy faffing with often but it is worth it!

I want to try the Ferrero rocher ice cream, and Lindor need to step up as well, can you imagine that ❤️❤️❤️🐷🐷

Sainsburys had an Arctic roll not sure if they still do, it was lovely with thawed frozen raspberries on

Everything is being made cheaper and cheaper to produce by the big corporate food producers until eventually we'll be eating modified plastic mixed with chemicals. Like a swallowable chewing gum.
