To think some people are so thick it’s almost beyond parody

Photo on local history Facebook group. A beautiful Georgian mansion, taken in the 1930s. The post clearly explains that the mansion was demolished in the 1950s after a devastating fire destroyed most the structure, at which time it was in private hands. There’s a second photo of the shell of the building post-fire, clearly showing all but one wall standing.

Comments underneath include people
blaming the council for not preserving the mansion, demolishing it for “profit” at the behest of “developers” (despite the council not owing it, selling it or giving permission to build on it); how the failure to preserve the mansion was “woke” and shows the left’s disrespect for our heritage; several entirely serious posts about the land probably being used for a Mosque.

The land where it stood is still empty and still privately owned (as far as I can see).

Are people genuinely this stupid or are they keen to shoehorn their political views into literally anything?

OP posts:

I think they're desperate to shoe horn their political views into everything and too stupid to know the difference between a good example and the rantings of a fool.

Yes I see this on Nextdoor. It’s so depressing. And predictable

Think of it as a good proportion of the population are below average intelligence.

Sounds about right, common sense for the best part has died. Social media and apps have a lot to answer for, so many peeps are becoming brain dead zombies wandering aimlessy around staring at their phones.
I think a lot of them have been lobotomised by technology.

Quine0nline · 10/04/2026 10:44

Sometimes lack of common sense, critical thinking, actually thinking of just not reading the question, or willingness to accept something which is not what was expected. Sometimes just dumber than a rock.

honeylulu · 10/04/2026 10:44

There are plenty of people who blame "the government" for everything and think "the government " should pay for everything. Where these limitless funds are going to come from is something they clearly don't think about!

PollyBell · 10/04/2026 10:46

Its misogyny,

How? I have no idea but we need to say it anytime someone says, well, anything

IntheMoodforWong · 10/04/2026 10:46

It's the same on here. It doesn't matter how detailed an OP is about their circumstances, someone will come along and ask them about something they've already mentioned or suggest they just do X thing that they've already said they can't.

I once posted that 50 % of the population are of below average intelligence.

There was a bit of a "pile on" denying this and abusing my intelligence for not understanding statistics. 🙄

That was probably Michael Gove Grin

In the reviews of a hotel on a travel site someone left this.
“I have never stayed at this hotel. “
😁😁

Possibly they’d been asked for a review, though. That’s happened to me.

A lot of those comments are posted by bots to rile people up.

Yep - Reform or some right wing agitators are paying bots to dominate social media. I don't think half the hate online is actually real. The idea is to normalise it so Reform aren't seen as a hard right party, which is a barrier to them winning elections.

L0V315 · 10/04/2026 10:54

Being thick as pig shit is all the rage now, dont you know.

Or they will post 'ChatGPT says...' as though asking a robot is a valid choice!

KTheGrey · 10/04/2026 10:55

I speculate you don’t work with the public face to face.

The average IQ is 100 and about 50% of the population is between 90 - 110. The percentage “below average” ie under 90 is around 25% - like the percentages of “above average”. Bell curve innit.

Happyjoe · 10/04/2026 10:56

I also think people scan or just don't bother to read before commenting. Attention span has gon..... ooh, look, there's a pretty thing

Facebook is the reason Farage still has a career. All these turkeys are about to vote for Christmas. We are utterly fucked.

And twitter. Ban them both for the misinformation they spread!

RhaenysRocks · 10/04/2026 11:01

I started a thread a while back about this in relation to voting. Inevitably people told me I was all kinds of wrong and wanting people to only vote 'correctly ' ie the same as me. Totally ignored the fact that my op had specifically denied this and said that it should be a simple test, administered in lots of different ways to account for reading skills that would simply test the most basic knowledge of government functions or each party's main 3 pledges (which they can choose for the exercise).

The teens i teach said mostly that they wouldn't want to.vote at 16 because they don't know what they're voting for.

Goldfsh · 10/04/2026 11:05

I've set up a fake FB profile to engage with the weird Reform voters in my local FB group. I'm enjoying putting FACTS up. I get lots of likes and it's very gratifying.

What I can't understand is how this is working: there are a small number of genuine people posting this stuff (I've basically stalked them) but they are posting the same sort of AI-produced content - and they are clearly getting it from someone else. So who? And are they being paid? I'd love to know.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2026 11:07

I reckon you need an ‘and’ rather than an ‘or’ in your final sentence, OP.

drippingsap · 10/04/2026 11:13

Comprehension is pretty low so people either don’t read or read but don’t understand & just jump to the comments.

Even on MNs comprehension is often lacking.

Anonanonanonagain · 10/04/2026 11:15

Theres a 'peaceful protest' about the price of fuel in Ireland currently and I have personally seen banners on bridges saying 'get them out' meaning the foreigners who have absolutely nothing to do with the price of fuel in this country. People who have closed minds always have open mouths and rarely see past their own agendas even when being handed proof of anything so no this does not in the least surprise me. Some people are dumber than dogshit.

Agree on the bots/ragebait as fact, but it's honestly one of my biggest peeves. These people walk amongst us, and locally, are invariably the loudest. It's lunked to entitlement too I find. We have a local ish discount/cash and carry type place (short dates etc) They posted this week that they have a stock of plain school uniform pieces, with pics of rails of trousers/polos etc. They are priced at £1.50 an item and Buy 2 get 3rd free. Some woman commented below tagging her mate 'That's not bad' - no doubt whilst eating a 4 quid 'loaded brownie' or somesuch.

What am I missing here?

That’s not ‘dumb’, though — that’s racists just jumping on an entirely separate protest and hoping to stoke up anti-immigration ire in people inconvenienced by the blockades.
