We moved to Dubai last year with our kids the oldest of whom is currently in year 10 at a British curriculum school doing GCSEs.
With the ongoing uncertainty about schools reopening at all before September, we’re looking at all of our options, whether we stay here and continue online learning possibly for the next few months (boring for them but they can still do clubs and see friends) or go back to the UK until after GCSEs and hope we can get back into their old schools. However they were all at popular state schools that will likely be oversubscribed meaning we’d have to go private which is another ‘big’ move for them when we’ve just settled so well here.
Id be interested to know from those of you who had kids of that age in covid (younger 2 are year 8 and 6 but I feel less concerned for them) how you felt online learning impacted them and their subsequent GCSEs? He’s a bright kid and likely to do well but also very low effort at the best of times so I’m concerned about motivation levels! Mental well being also but at least life isn’t as restricted as Covid so that helps.
