AIBU to be pleased Kanye West cannot come to the UK?

I'm glad Kanye West can't come to the U K, and what's more, pleased that Wireless festival is cancelled. Serves them right, i hope they lose money. Anti - semitism is not big or clever, and the last thing the UK needs is some boorish American antisemitic overrated muso coming here. Not ok. He's a horrible misogynist as well ,judging by the way he treats his girlfriends. It's time the music industry took a long hard look at itself and the men they support.

Totally agree with you OP.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 07/04/2026 21:41

I’m shocked that they cancelled it rather than replacing the headliner

PoppinjayPolly · 07/04/2026 21:42

Can only assume those who don’t agree with you are either also anti-Semite or are of the “awww poor chap!! He said sorry!!” persuasion?

So why open it when it’s clear what it’s about?

ACynicalDad · 07/04/2026 21:47

I wish we banned more like him performing, including some with British passports. Don't need anyone idolising him.

examworries2026 · 07/04/2026 22:27

Totally agree OP it’s the first time this govt has shown any back bone.

Missed the government standing up to Trump over Iraq then?

Why not? 😊

Zov · 07/04/2026 22:36

100% agree. He really is a vile man.

Sunshineandrainbow · 07/04/2026 22:40

Cancelling just him rather then the whole event would have been better. My now adult DC have been to many wireless events and had a fab time.

Why moan?

MeganM3 · 07/04/2026 22:42

A shame they couldn’t have replaced him with a British artist who isn’t an anti semitic misogynist mentally unwell middle aged man.

Really hope whoever is (was) in charge of the festival is replaced. We don’t need someone with such bad judgement running a huge music festival in London.

I think some of the sponsors pulled out? The event has gained bad publicity for even considering KW. I think that's why it's been shelved now.

PurpleThistle7 · 07/04/2026 22:46

Am delighted he’s not coming but super confused as to how it got to this point. Dozens or maybe even hundreds of people would have been aware of his background - the press people, the people who book the music, anyone involved in designing media, the lawyers, etc etc etc and no one raised a concern until border control? It’s actually a bit horrifying.

They most likely had no choice but to cancel it as this whole debacle would have been incredibly costly for them. They will have lost an obscene amount of money from this. Sponsors and advertisers withdrawing money, having to find three major artists to fill the three headliner spots at incredibly short notice. The festival most likely got Kanye cheaper doing all three nights than three separate huge artists doing one night each.

They will also probably have had to pay Kanye money for having to drop him (even if their hands are tied legally) as per contract clauses. They will have also have had to pay out a considerable amount for insurance, rebranding and readvertising any new replacement artists, issuing refunds, dealing with press, complaints, sets already made, groundwork, landscaping, logistics, existing work staff have done, retention and contract payments, everything basically having to be completely changed or redone. It would be a financial and logistical nightmare. Replacing one nights headliner is difficult enough last minute but three is a nightmare.

Ok I’ll give you that it’s been an unusually strong week for Keir Starmer

Because it didn’t happen.

The UK govt have allowed the US to use their bases to attack Iran. Don’t be fooled by Keir’s initial face-saving posturing , it was all for show.

Banning Kanye is right but sucking up to racist Trump at the same time is hypocrisy.
