AIBU to wonder if this head injury sounds like concussion?

I hit my head really hard around 4pm yesterday. I was sat on a sofa foot stool and my daughter kicked me square in the chest (autistic and having a meltdown) and I fell backwards and hit the back of my head on the corner of the other sofa foot stool which is diagonal to it. The corners are wooden are quite hard.

I started to have a headache and feel sick about 10 minutes afterwards for a little while then I managed to forget about it and get on with the rest of my day. I am now laying in bed with quite a bad headache at the back of my head where I hit it and feel quite sick.

Does this sound like concussion?

I'm not medically trained but it does sound like it could be. Could you call 111? I don't know what the advice is for things like this. I hope you're feeling better soon 💝

Thank you 💐I have tried to avoid calling 111 so far because I think they send you up A&E the minute you mention hitting your head and wanted to avoid sitting up the hospital for hours

Yes it does.
You should go and get checked out at A&E. My story is a reminder that issues following concussion can happen many hours afterwards.

I had a nasty fall many decades ago off my horse. Off duty policewoman friend saw I wasn't 'quite right' and took me in her car to A&E to get checked out

On the way I started talking nonsense and my cognitive ability became worse as I struggled to answer her simple questions. They assessed me immediately in hospital at which point my eyes started rolling in the back of my head and I was continually repeating a phrase, this is a phenomenal called Perserveration and along with my agitation (was telling the consultant to 'F off' and kicking/punching) was a major red flag for a bleed in the brain.

Our local hospital didn't have a CT scanner so I was blue lit to a hospital out of area with a Anaethetist in the back of the ambulance for a CT scan.

I was lucky - no lasting damage (which was life changing anyway although I was off work for many weeks) but I've had at least another 4 concussion since - all horse related and I'm now sadly at an increased risk of dementia.

Any concussion with sickness or headache is a red flag. Sorry to worry you but I'd strongly suggest you get yourself to A&E asap. You should not be left alone after concussion either. Nor should you drive.

At the very least I'd ring 111 for advice.

Sounds like it OP.

I’ve had it before and also became really sensitive to sound and had tinnitus. And I became irritated easily.

Is there an urgent treatment centre or minor injuries unit near you? I hope your dd has apologised and you feel better soon.
