WIBU not to pick up this Vinted order?

feedmefudge · 06/04/2026 12:17

Hi. I purchased something on Vinted a couple of days ago. Despite trying to convince myself that I really liked and wanted it, I decided that I had changed my mind. I saw that the seller hadn’t yet sent it, so at 7pm last night cancelled the order and sent her a very apologetic message to explain.
I didn’t hear anything back and at 12pm this afternoon received a notification from Vinted to say that it couldn’t be cancelled, followed by a message from the seller to say that she had just sent it. Unfortunate, but one of those things.

I regularly buy on Vinted but have never been in this position before. What happens if I don’t pick it up when it arrives? Will I be refunded in due course? And will the seller be able to leave negative feedback about me?

Thanks.

Don’t pick it up and it will be returned to her. She can relist it and sell it again. It sounds like she either didn’t agree to the cancellation or saw your request and posted the item anyway.

Which postage option did you pick? Royal Mail will hold it for you to collect for 18 days before returning to sender and Evri 14 days which means it will be a couple of weeks before you get your money back.

I’ve not picked up a parcel before due to us all having norovirus and not being able to get out of the house within the three days collection time. I got a full refund. Seller how to pay postage I’m guessing. I sent an apology message and asked if I could buy it again. She replied very kindly but did not sell it to me again. Very annoying for her but for me I really wanted the item and had been looking for it for a year.

PuppyMonkey · 06/04/2026 13:56

How much was the item, OP?

feedmefudge · 06/04/2026 13:58

£32, plus the fees on top.

Unfortunately (and fortunately!) the thing that I really HAD wanted came up and I bought that instead.
So I’m the one out of pocket. My feet are larger than the average woman’s, so it won’t be an easy thing to shift either! Ah well, you live and learn.

Large sized women's footwear tends to go pretty well on ebay ime.

I'm quite new to Vinted, but don't get some of these replies.
Twice I had sold something & the items were not collected by the buyer. I did not have to buy the postage label myself, but received a link to print the label.
I did not lose anything financially at all. I resued packaging & posted it when i was passing. I was peeved I'd gone to the trouble of posting it though.
They received an automatic negative review from Vinted itself because they hadn't collected.

MrsArcher23 · 06/04/2026 14:18

YABU. It’s Vinted, not M&S. The seller has taken her time to package and post. Even if she gets it returned eventually, it’s currently not available to her to resell, when she may have other buyers interested.

you are not being unreasonable @feedmefudge

If it's by Royal Mail, they're not even collecting/delivering due to easter.

This may be of use Vinted info;

If a buyer doesn’t collect their Vinted parcel, it’s returned to the seller and the transaction is cancelled.

The buyer is refunded, and the seller doesn’t receive payment — but the item is returned.

While the system protects both sides, sellers carry most of the inconvenience.

eta;
Your seller will only lose the sale, they get the item back, and they do not pay for the return shipping costs,

Item is returned, ergo they can re-sell.

Edited

Royal Mail may not be collecting but many of the newsagents and convenience stores that act as drop off points are open all over the weekend. Our local one is open 6am-10pm even on Easter Sunday. The seller could drop off the parcel at any time and not be able to get it back.

Thisismyusername1 · 06/04/2026 14:24

I’ve sold items on Vinted before that were not picked up. They were returned to me, the buyer was refunded and I re listed and sold again. It was a bit frustrating but neither of us were out of pocket, I had my item back and the buyer refunded .

Holidaymodeon · 06/04/2026 14:30

Yanbu . I’m a seller, if I’d seen your message before I sent it I’d have just asked you to cancel the purchase and say we mutually agreed and then relist it.
if they had not sent it when you sent the message then they’d definitely have seen the message when they went in to get your details or shipping label.
unless maybe they’d already printed the label and set their mind on sending it anyway but that’s not your fault.

InPost locker 🙂

you'll probably have seen their procedure @feedmefudge

  • Collection Window: You have 3 days (72 hours) to collect your parcel after it is delivered to the locker.
  • Deadline Mechanism: The 3-day clock starts as soon as you receive the notification with the collection code.
  • Notifications: You will receive a reminder when there are 24 hours left to collect.
  • What Happens Next: After the 3-day window passes, the courier will remove the parcel and start the return process to the sender.
  • Extensions: InPost cannot extend the collection time
Dollymylove · 06/04/2026 14:53

Annoying when someone doesnt bother to collect their purchase

Also annoying when buying something and the seller doesnt bother to post it 😡

twohotwaterbottles · 06/04/2026 14:55

Someone didn't collect an order that I had sent. I got the parcel delivered back to my house and they got their purchase price and postage refunded. The only person inconvenienced was me by having to go and post it. It seems nuts to me that buyers don't get penalised for being flaky but there we are. There was also no opportunity to give poor feedback. I wouldn't have tbh as I couldn't be bothered.

BeNavyCrab · 06/04/2026 12:25

Do you think it's fair that the seller has taken time, energy and had a cost for sending your item to you but you get your money back and they still have the postage cost? Usually if you buy something from a private seller then you have to pay for it. If you don't pick it up, you will still be liable for the cost of it and don't deserve a refund. If everyone gets a refund when they change their mind, it would destroy Vinted and nobody will put anything for sale on there. Either pick it up and sell it again yourself or don't but lose the money and don't bother the seller, who's done nothing wrong. In future only buy when you aren't going to change your mind.

Edited

buyer doesnt "lose the money"..she will be refunded

Wanderdust · 06/04/2026 15:24

Yes you'll probably be refunded but the seller will likely not get their item back! That's what happened to me, never saw it again despite promises that it would be returned to me.

Consider that a bonus because you sold at a price you wanted as Vinted would have refunded you for the lost item and the buyer got their money back!

This has happened to me also.

MoonChild111 · 06/04/2026 16:40

I’ve just had someone do this to me on Vinted. She said she didn’t get any notifications that her parcel was ready for collection, even though I was getting notifications that it was ready and waiting for her. It was an apparently returned to me while I was away on holiday, but I still don’t have it back and I have to wait until the end of April to see if I can get my refund.

It cost me time packaging, fuel etc to go and post it for her & she’s already had her refund.

If you know you’ve bought something, look out for the notifications and collect it 🙄

cheesychipsontheoche · 06/04/2026 16:58

Did you actually cancel the order or just send the message? as a buyer you have to go into the help section and choose cancel order otherwise there is an expectation that the seller will still send (and they will get an automatic bad rating for not sending if they don’t)

PuppyMonkey · 06/04/2026 17:32

feedmefudge · 06/04/2026 13:58

£32, plus the fees on top.

Crikey, I usually buy things for about £6 on Vinted so I suppose it wouldn’t be the end of the world for the seller but a £32 sale going tits up would be pretty annoying for them. Ah well. Maybe you’ll fall in love with whatever it is when you pick it up - or sell it on for a profit?

Coconutter24 · 06/04/2026 18:03

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 06/04/2026 12:51

But the swller is still out of pocket for the postage of aending it to the locker in the first place?

So it's really not on to just refuse to pick things up.

The seller doesn’t pay for postage the buyer does

I have had a couple of parcels where I genuinely didn’t receive any notifications. One I collected purely by chance as they gave it to me at the same time as collecting another parcel. Then had a headache getting vinted to update the status so the seller would receive payment.
Another I was checking every day both on vinted and in my email account and then got a message saying I hadn’t collected and it was being returned. Was so frustrating but luckily the seller was understanding and I repurchased using a different method of delivery. Must be very annoying if you haven’t received it back though.

onemorerose · 06/04/2026 18:32

MrsJeanLuc · 06/04/2026 13:14

Seller still will have paid the original postage cost, so that's a loss to them. Plus their time and effort in packaging the item. Plus the lost opportunity to sell it over the Easter weekend.

The seller doesn’t pay for postage on vinted the buyer pays it. All extra fees are paid by the buyer.

Seller will have seen your message and must have posted it as quickly as possible after that. Can you tell if she got the shipping label after your message or before?
