WIBU not to pick up this Vinted order?

feedmefudge · 06/04/2026 12:17

Hi. I purchased something on Vinted a couple of days ago. Despite trying to convince myself that I really liked and wanted it, I decided that I had changed my mind. I saw that the seller hadn’t yet sent it, so at 7pm last night cancelled the order and sent her a very apologetic message to explain.
I didn’t hear anything back and at 12pm this afternoon received a notification from Vinted to say that it couldn’t be cancelled, followed by a message from the seller to say that she had just sent it. Unfortunate, but one of those things.

I regularly buy on Vinted but have never been in this position before. What happens if I don’t pick it up when it arrives? Will I be refunded in due course? And will the seller be able to leave negative feedback about me?

Thanks.

I sell on Vinted and have had two non collected parcels in the space of a fortnight. Although I am not out of pocket in terms of the sale, I am out of pocket in terms of the posting bags (I buy these on amazon, they are not free) and also the whole inconvenience of going out of my way to drop the parcels off on my way to work. Sometimes emergencies happen and parcels can’t be collected but anyone just being a general twat by not collecting I block so they can’t buy anything else from me, same with people asking me to reserve items for them and wanting a discount at the same time. Happy to bargain over the price and consider any offers, but I’m not reserving it until the following week as well.

But the swller is still out of pocket for the postage of aending it to the locker in the first place?

So it's really not on to just refuse to pick things up.

Sorry, I don’t understand. Do you mean the fuel cost of taking it to a locker? I can walk to all lockers locally, but can understand that not everyone is able to do that.

YABU. The seller sold you that item in good faith and has taken the time to package and post it. Your vacillating about whether you want it or not is a you problem and you need to take responsibility for your actions and not expect her to suck it up, wait for it to returm, repackage and relist.

Vinted has been an absolute lifeline for women in particular, who are the ones hit hard by the COL crisis when they have to stretch the diminishing disposable income to cover family food and clothing. She may have earmarked that money for something important.

How do you know your time and money is more important than hers? Fulfil your obligation. If you don't want them, re-list them.

You must have missed the bit where i said I’d pick it up.

Just don't collect it. It'll be sent back. No one loses any money.

Alicorn1707 · 06/04/2026 12:33

you are not being unreasonable @feedmefudge

If it's by Royal Mail, they're not even collecting/delivering due to easter.

This may be of use Vinted info;

If a buyer doesn’t collect their Vinted parcel, it’s returned to the seller and the transaction is cancelled.

The buyer is refunded, and the seller doesn’t receive payment — but the item is returned.

While the system protects both sides, sellers carry most of the inconvenience.

eta;
Your seller will only lose the sale, they get the item back, and they do not pay for the return shipping costs,

Item is returned, ergo they can re-sell.

Edited

Seller still will have paid the original postage cost, so that's a loss to them. Plus their time and effort in packaging the item. Plus the lost opportunity to sell it over the Easter weekend.

WimbyAce · 06/04/2026 13:15

BeOchreDog · 06/04/2026 12:45

They have changed the rules, if you don’t collect you can still be charged and they return the item to the seller.

Really, I didn't know this? I have had 1 person not collect and it just got returned to my house. Then I sold it easily again so I wasn't bothered.

My ignored message 😆

Hi
I appreciate you have now decided to collect item
i was going to say - frequently I screenshot my postage qr code ( so I don’t hav to rely on dodgy WiFi when I am printing the sticker at store to send off.
If I had been your seller - there would be good chance I did not re log into Vinted app or read my messages before sending.
unless of course there is read receipt?
just sharing - she may have unintentionally overlooked message?

Additionally There is no way I can walk to Vinted sending points. And tbh putting 4 kids in car for 30 min car journey might not seem like much but can be tricky

The buyer pays the postage cost on Vinted. The seller will have had to pay for the packaging though, and had the general inconvenience of physically taking the parcel to a locker (how inconvenient that is will vary - I hardly have to go out of my way to get to a locker where I live, some people might have to drive to one).

skyeisthelimit · 06/04/2026 13:17

If she hadn't seen her emails then she wouldn't know you had wanted to cancel it. Once the label has been used it can't be cancelled.

Not everyone is on their phone every minute of the day checking their emails or apps, and it was Easter Weekend, OP could have been out for the day or busy.

Vinted rules are clear, you can't get refunds if it doesn't fit or you change your mind. You need to collect it and sell it on if you don't want it.

Or she packaged it up yesterday afternoon to take to the post at lunchtime today.

People who don’t collect their parcels are knobs. (Unless they’re dying in hospital or some other equivalent.)

Clarefromwork · 06/04/2026 13:21

Was about to say you might appear on one of the Facebook pages!

I think it’s the time the seller has taken to pack and send

Newusername0 · 06/04/2026 13:22

She won’t be out of pocket. It’s inconvenient and irritating but it happens. I’ve had a few sales not be collected.. I got a full refund and the buyer got an automatic 1* review - Vinted Auto generated!

Normally, I would fully agree with you! I’m not in the habit of not picking up, with no attempt to cancel or contact the seller.

I think this is really selfish of you :-(
when I get a Vinted order I often have to go rummaging through storage bags to find the item, perhaps even up in the loft. Then use one my postage bags (about 50p-£1) to package it up and make a special trip along to post it. When buyers then don’t collect it such a waste of time and just really rude and unfair unless really good reason. Changing mind is not a good reason. They’re not a shop!
Even worse is that they then have to find time to relist and gain interest from new buyers, having lost all previous people who were maybe watching that item/submitting offers

This!

Alpacajigsaw · 06/04/2026 13:30

I wouldn’t pick it up.

feedmefudge · 06/04/2026 13:36

If people are driving 30 mins to a locker, spending £1 on each postage bag and rummaging in the loft to find their wares, then sorry, but that level of daftness is not on me!

Poundland do fab bags. £1 for a pack of 5.

roses2 · 06/04/2026 13:41

I’ve done this before - it takes three weeks for the refund to come through but both you and the seller will get a full refund including fees postage etc and neither will be out of pocket.

CaptainHammer · 06/04/2026 13:45

I’ve had buyers not collect a few times now and the item is returned to me. Except every single time the item has gone “missing” and I haven’t received it. Vinted refund you but you have to wait 25 days and it’s a massive pain in the arse trying to sort it with the Vinted chat bots.

I’d collect and resell personally.

IkeaMeatballGravy · 06/04/2026 13:46

It's so annoying when people cancel, you could have lost that seller a sale. When the listing goes live again, it doesn't restart the clock, it is still treated as a listing that is a day or two old. The vinted market is so saturated that after that time the listing just gets lost. Anyone who saved her item as a favourite will get a notification to say it has been sold so all of the interest in it has gone. It's quite possible she didn't see your message but if she did and sent the item anyway I don't blame her one bit. Next time think more carefully before you buy.

feedmefudge · 06/04/2026 13:47

Meant to say, thanks for the replies everyone.

Don’t pick it up and it will be returned to her. She can relist it and sell it again. It sounds like she either didn’t agree to the cancellation or saw your request and posted the item anyway.

Which postage option did you pick? Royal Mail will hold it for you to collect for 18 days before returning to sender and Evri 14 days which means it will be a couple of weeks before you get your money back.

Yes, I do appreciate that. I remember that the item had amassed a fair few ‘likes’, and it would be annoying to lose that.

Don’t worry, I am feeling suitably patro… chastised and will think about my behaviour in future 🤪
