When does a boyfriend become a DP?

I’ve read a few threads recently where someone has referred to their other half as ‘DP’, to ferocious replies along the lines of ‘DP?! It’s only been 8 months’ or the charming ‘DP? Don’t you mean your SHAG’

Please educate me!

Partner suggests an element of committment, equality, working together for shared goals, being a team. It's not related to the amount of time you've been together.
