DH can at times go a bit funny , though he normally snaps out of it.
This current episode has stuck around for longer than usual and as a family we are getting concerned.

It started off with him locking the doors as soon as the sun had set just incase, that then escalated into the garden gate have padlocks fitted and the doors locked at all times, DH had also set dug the ring camera and doorbell out of the cupboard to monitor activity.

Yesterday I had a hospital appointment, whilst i was having my procedure done he waited outside in the car park, there were two incidents that took place.
The first it was a warm day, he kept the kids in the car with the windows up “just in case”.

Then the youngest really needed the toilet so he put the 14 year old in the drivers seat , with the engine running and told her to “be prepared”

Is this normal, he appears to be his normal self but is scared of zombies coming

Is this normal

I’m sure you know it’s not.

Imaginingdragonsagain · 03/04/2026 09:11

I would be really worried about this. assuming you’re not joking. Basically telling the 14 year old they needed to be ready to drive away if there was a zombie attack?! He needs some help. what if this escalates?

HippeePrincess · 03/04/2026 09:12

No this is absolutely not normal, though delusional and paranoid ideas are really common for those who have mental illness which I believe your partner should be evaluated for. This sounds like it’s escalating and could potentially get quite serious or dangerous.

Greyblankie · 03/04/2026 09:12

You’re either on the wind up or your husband is very unwell

Hibernationistheplan · 03/04/2026 09:13

No not at all normal. Unless he suffers from any mental illness where paranoia is a symptom. I think he needs to speak to his GP.

sittingonabeach · 03/04/2026 09:13

Why would anyone think this was normal?

YerMotherWasAHamster · 03/04/2026 09:13

Are you seriously asking if someone being genuinely afraid that zombies are coming is normal.

If you have to ask that question then you may also need some support.

Clefable · 03/04/2026 09:13

If this is real then he’s having a serious mental health episode and needs help asap. If this is something that regularly happens on and off then he has an untreated mental health disorder.

RaspberryRipple3 · 03/04/2026 09:14

Have you asked him what he’s worried about? If it’s actually about zombies then obviously there is something not right with him. However, if it’s about increased crime in the area, or something like that, then maybe it’s more understandable.

People asking if I am being serious asking if it is normal, I am.

We have lived the last 6 years of conspiracy theories and other equally bizarre nonsense

I was testing to see if this is the “latest” one

Is it legal for 14 year olds to be in charge of a car? This has got to be a wind-up, I suppose it is the school holidays.

SixSevenShutUp · 03/04/2026 09:17

He actually committed a criminal offence yesterday. It is not legal to allow a child to sit in the driver's seat and especially not with the engine running! If someone had noticed they could have rung the police. I think you should contact the crisis team for your area to get him some help.

Don’t be ridiculous. If you have to question whether this is normal behaviour then you’re as bloody nuts as he is

HarryVanderspeigle · 03/04/2026 09:18

Everyone should have a plan for zombies surely? Do you have boards ready for the windows? Tools or weapons to destroy the brain?

Yeah they are coming 😂

ElectricMagpie · 03/04/2026 09:19

It's not zombie paranoia though, it's just fear of Bad People. As a child I was taught to always lock the door, which backfired one day when I absentmindedly locked my parents in the garden then went to listen to music on headphones.

zombies don’t have brains - the only way to destroy them is by shooting them through their open zombie mouth - or setting them on fire.

Wordsmithery · 03/04/2026 09:21

I actually hope this is a fake post but will respond just in case...
OP, this is very far from normal and your husband needs immediate medical help. Don't leave him alone and don't leave him in charge of your children. Take him right now.

Why does shooting them through their open mouth work?

I don’t know but having played The Last of Us that tends to be the only way to stop them.

He spent a lot of the end of last year waiting for the Aliens to come, he would go down the fields at night and film the sky

Yeah OP he sounds absolutely fine! DH and I often sit waiting for the aliens on a Saturday night. Sunday is reserved for the four horses of the apocalypse which I believe is pretty close now. Not this week though, as it’s Easter.

SilverPink · 03/04/2026 09:26

Why don’t you just go down to the Winchester and wait for it all to blow over
