Sooo - my dad went into town this evening.

A girl ran up to him and said her period had started but her card wouldnt work in the machine so she couldnt get any cash. She said shed asked 4 other people but no one would help her. Said she needed £2 just to get 'what she needed' for tonight.

(Cant imagine my straightlaced dad having a conversation in the street about periods )

Anywy he gave her the money and she said if he had a piece of paper she would write down her number. Instead he gave her his business card - which because he works for himself has his home address on it !!!!!

So now my mother had phoned me - worried that this girl is part of a gang of druggies and going to come round and rob them (!)

Ive told her not to worry - not a problem.

But tbh im a bit . What if this girl wasnt genuine - and she now has the address of a 'soft touch'.

Would you be concerned too?????

oh and by the way - ive told him to have his business cards reprinted with just his email address and phone number on it. this is a man who shreds 'everything' in case of identity fraud and then gives his addres out willy nilly.

You wouldnt believe that he has an importnat, responsible job when sometimes he is just sooo not streetwise. (He also walks thruogh the park at 1am in the morning where lots of drug users gather because he thinks if anyone tackles him he'll just tell their parents and all will be ok .)

By God you read the papers too much! Not everyone is a druggie - and up to no good.

2point4kids · 18/06/2008 20:33

I wouldnt worry myself.

Twelvelegs · 18/06/2008 20:40

It is a common con where I live to say your period has started, not enough money for a bus, just lost change for a parking meter etc. I cannot imagine how desperate anyone was for tampax that they would ask someone on the street, they'd just use tissue surely. Having said that I doubt she's interested in robbing your Dad's house just because she has his address. If she does rob houses I expect she'd rather not know her victim

SoupKitchen · 18/06/2008 20:45

Find it stranger that she was going to give him her number. wtf for?

OrmIrian · 18/06/2008 20:47

Odd. I'd just stuff tissues in my knickers rather than run up to some random man in the street But I don't really think there's any risk to his house.

littleboyblue · 18/06/2008 20:48

Was just thinking that myself. Why would she want to give him her phone number?
And yes, your dad prob shouldn't have his home address on a business card, not every client is gonna be completely happy with service. You don't want complaints on door step.

micci25 · 18/06/2008 20:51

sounds a bit odd to me. surely she would ahve just gone to a family member or friends house for a borrow?

maybe she was a druggy and wanted to make her story seem more genuine. she offered him her number rather than ask for his though so i doubt that she wants to rob him its not like she actually asked for address!

plus if she was into robbing houses surely it would just be random nice looking houses rather than ones she has the address for. he didnt give her his house key afterall! sure their house will be fine. sounds like you have a mum who is a worrier with an overactive imagination bit like mine then

kizzie · 18/06/2008 21:07

oh good . nice rational answers to calm over active imaginations!!!!!!!

Wasnt concerned in slightest about him giving the girl the money. i would have done too just in case it was genuine story. (and wouldnt have given a second thought to ever getting it back.)

It was just the personal info to a stranger who had just asked for money that was a bit or a worry.

Micci25 - have you met my mother .

my mum thinks that i am being stalked by my ex as she had a phonecall at her house asking for me and later that day some young lads in a car took a pic of my sister on their cam phone while she was on her way home from work, which is across the road from where i live and we do look a bit alike.

i should add that my sis often wears low cut tops and is rather favourably endowed up there iyswim?

nappyaddict · 18/06/2008 21:22

i also don't get why she wanted to give him her number?
